Perseids set to perform

Clear skies are far from guaranteed, but if you are lucky enough to be able to see the stars tonight you should. The annual Perseid meteor shower is predicted to provide, as much as it’s possible to predict that is, a great show as the Earth passes through the tail of the Swift-Tuttle comet. Astronomy.ie has some tips, and they’d appreciate any notes you make. JPLNews for August explains - Original video here

  1. For those who have ever wondered where those meteors come from, the link to Original video is worth watching.

    Education, education, education.. ;o)

Unfortunately clear skies were noticeable by their absence last night.. but the shower will continue in the nights ahead, albeit with an ever-lower frequency.

  3. We had quite a good display. Cloudless sky and reasonably warm.
We sat out on lawnchairs, drinks in hand and watched for an hour or so.
I got up at 4:00 am again when the display was supposed to be at its maximum but wasn’t really any different from 1:00 am.
    Cheers.

  5. I sat outside last night and saw bugger all. Typical, one rule for the Northern Hemisphere, another for the south....
