People with too much time on their hands Unite

Some of you may remember Wendy Austin’s quip a few weeks ago about bloggers being people with too much time on their hands. I was therefore more than a little interested to hear herself on Radio Ulster this morning handling this innovative project by the National Trust.

I guess you could call it an internet time capsule of sorts. People have been invited to recall what they were doing on October 17th 2006, and all of the results will be collected and preserved for future generations.

We want as many people as possible to record a ‘blog’ diary of this one day which will eventually be stored by the British Library as a permanent historical record of our national life. This is a one off, one day diary done on a mass scale – that will itself make history and can be a resource for historians in the future.

October 17th is a special day on my personal calendar, being my birthday and all, so I was wryly amused to listen to how all the other folks spent the day. Little did I know I’d be stuck, yet again, on the M1 coming home for 2 hours, as yet another lorry shared its load with the rush hour traffic. Life is miserable enough leaving Belfast without such enormous and disruptive delays in traffic. I know, I know, accidents happen...... one is entitled to wish they happened either mid morning or late at night

  1. That Austin quip seems to have touched a nerve.

  2. Is Wendy Austin the one with the jut-jaw and the lisp?  The same one pictured holding court at a BBC barbeque(sp?)on an Ormeau Road billboard?
