“Of course, it also insists its ‘international’ players carry UK passports”
Sticking with the subject of soccer, there seems to a misapprehension abroad regard the IFA passports issue. It’s hardly surprising since there has been a lot of self serviing posturing around the issue. Even newsman Máirtin O’Muilleoir seems to have the wrong end of the stick, when he states that “...of course, it (the IFA) also insists its ‘international’ players carry UK passports”. However this this is what the chief executive of the IFA, Howard Wells, said before Fifa changed its mind in March 2006:
“There is not a problem about players travelling on either passport,” he said.
“The issue has been that historically, on the administration of some matches that we have had at international level, there has been confusion in the minds of some Uefa officials about the fact… that some of our players have different passports to each other.
“It is because people don’t understand the differences, or the uniqueness of Northern Ireland, in terms of our passport issue.”
Given that was the IFA position at the outset of the controversy, I’m not sure how Máirtín’s claim stands up to scrutiny now…

“while wrecking an english city”
I’m hearing that Manchester is fully functional today - unlike when the Germans and Provisionals visited it.
Why exaggerate?

beano, of course the ulster flag has nothing to do with linfield nor is it the flag of choice at windsor park. how silly of me (not)

“realist...the provos or germans didnt sing rule britannia while they were wrecking it”
What’s your point?
Did some supporters of another Glasgow team not disgrace themselves by singing songs about an organisation that bombed Manchester when they visited the city?
Have you got that Youtube video for prosperity too?
“of course the ulster flag has nothing to do with linfield nor is it the flag of choice at windsor park”
What’s your point?
What, exactly, has some Rangers fans in Manchester carrying the Ulster Banner, got to do with Linfield FC or Windsor Park.
PS. Linfield FC flay the national flag of the United Kingdom Of Great Britain and Northern Ireland at Windsor Park, not the Ulster Banner.
The IFA fly the Ulster Banner, not the national flag of the United Kingdom Of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, when they hire Windsor Park for International games.
Why do you feel the need to make spurious linkages, in order to highlight your bigotry?

From what I read of Howard Wells comments, there’s an ambiguity which suggests that players when travelling on NI ‘international’ duty have to carry UK passports whether it’s to satisfy NI officials or UEFA/FIFA I’m unsure but the obligation seems to be there whatever the case.
The whole sorry episode of Darron Gibson was a case in point and the IFA’s unfortunate attitude in that incident has poisoned the already septic debate on these issues.
But if you want to go ahead an libel Mairtín O Muilleoir, do so. I have no doubt that he will consider it easy pickings to go and take a few bob off Mick Fealty for your illconsidered generalisation.
The same goes for poor Beano and his Comical Ali denial of Rangers fans being caught red handed in Manchester.....

I didn’t read Beano making any denials concerning Rangers fans. One of us can’t read and I’m guessing that it isn’t me.

It was UEFA who insisted on NI players carrying British passports. The IFA objected to this as any player who qualifies through birth, parentage, or other FIFA guidelines has always been able to carry either a British or Irish passport. Like me the IFA recognise that playing for NI does not dilute anyone´s Irishness it does in fact enhance it.
Instead of you being worried about Marty you should be more concerned about the disgraceful slanderous lies you peddle on these threads relating to the IFA, the NI team and NI supporters. Shame on you.
As far as Marty Miller is concerned he has been both a Politician and a Journalist in his day, need I say more.
Posted by on May 15, 2008 @ 03:39 PMAnd, to the earlier tangentist (!), Just as Ballymena will indeed always be an Irish town, Ireland will always be a part of the British Isles, just as the Irish will always be Britons, no amount of National Socialist brainwashing will ever change that.
(and yes I am 12 just like you and I am blowing raspberries) *parrrrrrrrp*
It should be pointed out that the, at most, few hundred Rangers ‘fans’ that were involved in trouble are not representative of the majority. The insinuation that they are is text book bigotry.
The images of the Union Fag and the Belfast standard / pretend Ulster flag being brandished in such a fashion and by such a mob is a source of shame for the Folk, the Standard and the Patriot Dead of the Protestant People of Ireland. Then again anyone who didn’t see it coming is a rhubarb. We must take responsibility for repressing the thug element in our society and correcting the manners of those thugs. This is vital for our welfare, the success of our children and our every political project.

I’m perfectly capable of going to my own lawyer Dr. Who - so put up or shut up.

“However it’s also worth pointing out that this obviously sectarian and politically motivated decision by the IFA completely lays waste to their notion that it was somehow alright to stop youngsters born in the north eastern counties of Ireland from playing for their country - ie the Republic of Ireland - and not have to endure the risk of playing in Windsor Park in front of a crowd which thinks it’s great crack to issue death threats if you happen to be of the other persuasion…”
“It’s fairly clear to me, and to any reasonable observer, however, that the IFA are pursuing a sectarian and political agenda and if you or the IFA don’t get how this might be so, it shows you up.”
“The IFA have forfeited their authority on the issue through their sectarian and politically motivated antics.”
“I think that the only organisation which should go down is the IFA It seems this crowd of amateur sectarians”
“It’s shortsighted in the extreme from the IFA and if it isn’t sectarian it’s utterly stupid. My money’s on sectarianism AND stupidity”
Ok Petrocelli, can you now back up these allegations of inherent sectarianism within the IFA and GAWA or if you can´t, can you as you so eloquently put it SHUT UP.

Good luck with your lawyer comrade :-)

Concubhar O Liatháin (peddler of unsubstantiated falsehoods)),
Let me clear up the “ambiguity” for you, once and for all.
Players representing Northern Ireland can (and do)travel on either a British or Irish Passport.
Players representing Northern Ireland can (and do) utilise either a British or Irish Passport in order to satisfy FIFA requirements regarding confirmation of eligibility.
Máirtin O’Muilleoir, like you, peddles falsehoods.
Posted by on May 15, 2008 @ 05:19 PMIt seems that Doctor Who doesn’t get the difference between stating as a matter of fact that someone is a liar can be libellous while someone who expresses an opinion is perfectly entitled to do so. I didn’t say anyone was lying or making a career out of lying.
It’s obvious to me based on my understanding of the IFA and it’s sorry sectarian history that this exclusion is sectarian and political - I could be wrong but that’s what it looks like to me. In a court of law that’s arguably a statement of opinion.
If you want to go on with your antics, please do. C U in Court!

An annonymous call to the BBC from an anonymous source without a recognised password stated that if Lennon played he would get hurt. It could have been a disgruntled Celtic fan for all you know.
Neill lennon was given the support of the vast majority of the GAWA. Nevertheless the fact that Lennon was singled out by a certain section of NI fans for being a Celtic player was indeed shameful. Similar incidents occurred at Landsdowne Road when Rangers players appeared there for away teams, equally as shameful.
I hope that clears that up for you. Now you can go back to your bumper DVD of Boston Legal.

Nobody ever got a death threat painted on a wall in their hometown.....
Posted by on May 15, 2008 @ 05:44 PMConcubhar O Liatháin (peddler of unsubstantiated falsehoods),
Do you have any shred of evidence that anyone who has ever set foot in Windsor Park was responsible in any way for the death threats that Neil received?
Your “opinion” won’t stack up in court now - a legal beagal like you should know that.
If you have such evidence, please inform the PSNI - I would love to see those responsible brought to justice.
Thankfully Neil has risen above your level of base sectarianism - he has been fulsome and sincere in his praise of Northern Ireland fans - who supported him through a difficult period - and has gone on public record to acknowledge the magnificant atmosphere generated by Northern Ireland fans in recent times...describing Northern Ireland fans as “the envy of Europe”.
Neil rose above bigots - like yourself - stuck in a timewarp and needing of comfort blanket to hide your prejudices. Guilty of exactly what you vociferously accuse other of.
The more you peddle, the more your falsehoods find you out.
