1. A Northern Ireland based Information commissioner should be established to ensure that information is not needlessly witheld,e.g.I dont believe all the info re the giants causeway has been released.We want open and transparent government and therefore all information that is used in the making of decisions(even minded ones) should be open to public scrutiny.

2. Danny, in this snippet from the current Moyle edition of the Coleraine Chronicle, Louise Glass carries a statement from a spokesman for the Planning Service which doesn’t fully address SF McKay’s charge - in the same article - that a ‘high-ranking member’ of the Planning Service put a proposal to the council requesting that the existing centre and car park be demolished and that Council were asked to enter into a binding agreement not to build on this piece of land again.

   Minister Foster’s claims of utter rubbish re.pressure on Council to yield are worthy of some questions from the Environment Committee.

   I understand that David Ferguson, Chief Executive of the Planning Service, and Tom Clarke, the senior DOE official who allegedly accompanied Minister Foster to the Causeway on July 18 this year, attended this ‘private’ meeting. Neither McKay nor I were there and AFAIK FoI requests aren’t answered this quickly!!

   IIRC there was a suggestion some years ago that Moyle Council land at the Causeway could be vested - and presumably presented to a private developer.

   There is loads more stuff about that needs to come out.Some people are guilty of disgraceful behaviour.I wont name them here to legally protect slugger .I am prepared to name them however.get in touch.

4. Nevin just read the link- it seems that doe officials are now message boys,the only thing that some people know about propiety is that it is in the dictionary -just after property developer.

5. Danny, it would be inappropriate to label these officials as message boys. I understand there’s been a reluctance by (some) Moyle councillors to meet the developer.

7. Danny, isn’t it time MEPs, MPs, MLAs and Councillors got some justice for Christine Alexander? Our public representatives sometimes may make mistakes, wittingly or unwittingly, but they may also need protection from the so called legal process.

11. FoI rolls on:

    Sweeney lawyers’ letter on crucial day

    Lawyers for developer Seymour Sweeney wrote to Environment Minister Arlene Foster on the day she announced her preliminary approval for his Giant’s Causeway visitor centre plans.

    The letter is dated September 10 and has been stamped by the minister’s Private Office as having been “received” on that date. ..

    It referred to case law, while contending that the minister has the authority to overrule advisers on developments - including those affecting World Heritage sites like the Causeway. ..

    A spokesperson for Mr Sweeney’s firm Seaport said the letter had been drafted some time earlier.

    “It was issued after we were notified by the minister’s office that an announcement was going to be made,” the spokesperson added.”

    According to the Grapevine, the developer seems to have known about this ‘minded’ decision about three months ago. Could it be related to three folks and a large bottle of (celebratory?) plonk seen entering The Nook around the same time?

    James McCarry, an independent republican candidate in Moyle District Council’s by-election next month, is furious.

    He said: “I want this site removed and I have been on to Moyle Council to help in getting it removed and they have said they will investigate it. This site is disgraceful.” Belfast Telegraph
