It’s all psychological, innit…
Whilst not being a great fan of Freud, Will Hutton is on to something when he claims (near the end of this piece) that politics can be more about unscientific emotions than rational choices, the grammar of which territory we largely owe to old Siegmund (150 years old yesterday).

Posted by on May 07, 2006 @ 01:11 PMNice one Mick.
Freud examines causes rather than effects.
In a simple sense I’m sure he would agree that it would be far healthier to find happiness and balance within, ( Enlightenment ) before one adopts a religious posture; lest the inner powerful impulses of religion, and the external self-righteousness become a mask for mans’s inner unsolved inadequaces.
Or: face your own inner demons, before you attempt to grapple with the demons in society.

Eh? Freud was inspired by unscientific emotions himself, for all his claims to be scientific, and people could certainly analyse and examine them long before that. Look at Herodotus.Posted by on May 07, 2006 @ 05:55 PM
