Iris looking to ‘turn around’ gays

It was rather fitting that, in the week Brian Feeney labelled the Robinson-led DUP as the ‘Nasty Party,’ First Lady Iris lays out her views on turning around homosexuals. Iris had called for the portrayal of gay people to be banned from TV only a week earlier- when she also complained about not being able to use the term ‘coloureds.’ Ahh, for the good ol’ days Iris, eh???

  1. DUP may not be fit to govern but people, just like you and me, if not you and me, still vote for them. Does that mean we are not fit to be given the vote? lol
Did you see the Daily Politics where the host corrected an MP by saying it was the UUP and not the DUP that Labour will be relying for the 42 day detention vote only to be corrected later on.

  2. Its a bit of a pity that there isn’t a single openly gay elected representative that was able to challenge Robinson’s views in that arena.

I’m trying my best Mark - you can come and give me a hand sometime if you feel so strongly about it.  ;-)

I’m slightly annoyed that the BBC ran me on several occasions yesterday (including a very generous 25 minutes on Talkback) but didn’t see fit to mentioning my political views.  I don’t know, maybe they thought the Party wouldn’t want the exposure? - but had they asked me, I could have told them the cats were cool with it.

Anyway, I’m running off - I’m going down to the Free State on the next train to get my weapon inspected!

  3. Is that guy from the SDLP Mac Loghlainn or whatever not still an elected representative?

  4. Please stand up for us and support us, the very small minority of Gay and Lesbian people in Northern Ireland.  Every family has someone who is gay.  If you think otherwise you are wrong.  Noone made us gay, we were born like this and it is part of nature, not nurture.  We need your support to remove people like Iris Robinson from office, and this can only be done by voting for decent minded politicians.

Our worst fears have been realised with the election of Peter Robinson (Democratic Unionist Party) as First Minister.

Because Iris’s belief in the bible is unwavering, she would argue that black was white.  And you cannot win against such blinkered attitudes.  She is trying to force her opinions on us, when we just want to leave peacefully and let others live.

  5. Also let us be realistic would an openly gay person ever be elected here? When we had the allegations about Paul Berry years ago at least the DUP played their hand without bluffing and to my knowledge they were just that, ‘allegations’.

  8. Homosexuality is abnormal behaviour by definition,

Sorry daven this is a nonsense, which and whose definition exactly?
Homosexuality occurs throughout the animal kingdom and therefore cannot in any way be described as abnormal it is a perfectly “natural” thing according to absolute scientific principle .
The only non religious argument for homesexual behaviour being abnormal rests upon the notion that sex exists solely for the purposes of procration, which is simply not the case, especially in social animals.
The overwhelming majority of heterosexual acts do not happen in order to procreate, nor do all heterosexual acts involve penetrative sex.
Sex is used by humans and other animals for all sorts of reasons.

  9. The better position would be to disprove Iris wrong. It is clear in any Christian Church in ULster that there are many former sodomites who have been transformed by Christianity like former alcoholics.

THe media hate the fact that this is so and refuse to interview such people. When I lived in the USA there are websites, TV programs run and produced by Christians who were former sodomites for decades and now live in normal heterosexual relationships. Just google it and get their life stories.

Instead of the fascism by many sodomite fans here who are trying to shout any one down who has a different view of life, why don’t you expose Iris’ position as mythological?

As I said earlier, most right thinking people are opposed to bigamy and polygamy yet there is no more grounds for doing so than for sodomy - both are unnatural. Can we have some consistency please by all the little pink liberals on Slugger!!

  10. Nat

Suggest you watch “The West Wing” season 2 episode 3 - “The Midterms” and play it to whichever cave dwelling, inbred, brainwashed politician you like, it’s a great bit of TV.

    Chris

Is it really on to make fun of the afflicted?

This is such an open goal for anyone with a modicum of political common sense and yet Iris will probably gain votes as a result!  I despair, I really do…

  11. SHanna

Surely you mean the better position would be the missionary!!!

    Posted by  on Jun 07, 2008 @ 12:36 PM
  12. What really angers and offends me is that I have had posts deleted from this thread and yet SHannah is permitted to make the type of post above which deliberately uses insulting language towards all non believers.
This is but another example of how the religious have carved out special privelages whereby they are allowed to say things the rest of us are not.
Our society is infected by this disease called religion the symtoms are hompohobic and sectarian attacks upon innocent people, and woe betide those of us who speak out against it.
This thread is about someone who says homosexuals can be cured, just as Shannah repeats that homosexuals can be cured, and yet when I suggested we reeducate and cure Christians of their afflcition, the post is removed.
Of course it is ridiculus to suggest anyone can be “cured” be they Christian or homosexual, and yet one point of view is permitted, the other removed from the thread.

Can the moderator who saw fit to remove my post please explain the reasoning behind allowing one view whilst censoring the other?

    Posted by  on Jun 07, 2008 @ 12:46 PM
  13. SHanna I do not share your religious beliefs.  They are based on a set of archaic laws and supposedly divines act which cannot and never have been proved. Your suggestion that homosexual people can and have been cured is not true. They are as much a part of nature as any other creature on earth, which have evolved over millions of years, rather than being created in 6 days like you stupidly believe.

No matter what you say, Christians pick and choose the teachings of their bible when it suits.  Get a life and leave normal decent people alone.

  14. I new that our elected representatives were getting a little behind with their work

to paraphrase the old DUP slogan “save sodomy from ulster”

    Posted by  on Jun 07, 2008 @ 01:12 PM
  15. Oh and Shanna
As for me being a fascist because i support equality......this goes a long way to disprove that silly wee notion.
I also note that being described as a fascist is a bit rich considering that all the stickers that i have removed are in protestant/loyalist areas. Hardly surprising i guess when elected representatives come out with the drivel that Iris did.

    Posted by  on Jun 07, 2008 @ 01:18 PM
  16. Sure why don’t we go back further still.
Only protestants should get jobs recommended by their daddys, black people should sit at the back of the bus and homosexuals should get electroconvulsive therapy.

I have to admit I’m glad this has happened so everyone can see what narrow minded uneducated bigots we have in Public Office.

  17. The quality and breadth of slugger outrage at this patent drivel is really heartening.

  18. To think what sort of place NI would be if this lot had been in government for the last fourty years.

It’s absolutely trajic, and I can’t tell you how damaging this sort of thing is for NI.  We are a laughing stock.

The best defence of Irish is that “she’s just saying what she believes”, and “people voted for her”.  People voted for Hitler, and he said and did what he believed.  So what?

I believe in science not superstition.

  19. Nat,

Your Lord respondeth in answer to your queeries

Qustion 1. When I burn a bull on the altar - the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

Answer 1 .I’m actually a vegetarian and don’t like the smell of meat burning but I never could stand the neighbors . We had one bastard neighbour here name of Satan eons ago . Man did I smite him . Go ahead .

Q.2, I would like to sell my future children into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, I’m concerned as to what would be a fair price for them?

A.2, I know how you feel . Kids can be such a disappointment . I had a son onetime -went off to get crucified for ‘their ‘ sake . Now I ask you is that adult behaviour ? I was talking to a 4 year old the other day and the kid says my son got crucified for his (the 4 year old’s sake ?) I mean think about this . Take my advice Sell them for whatever you can get . There’s a glut at the moment.

Q.3 I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period—but most women take offense.

A.3 Lev had absolutely no idea about women.  This is just a variant of the old headache routine . Never mind Lev he was more than a little odd. Some said he was you know one of ‘them ‘ .  Just barge ahead. If she complains sell her off like the kids.

    Q.4,
Levicitus 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans but not Canadians. Why can’t I own Canadians?

    A.4 ,

Well I can see you were’nt born in an igloo.  If you are going to have a slave best to have them unthawed and warm bodied ready to slave 12 months of the year . The thing about Canadians is they don’t thaw out till about June and start freezing up again at the end of July . Don’t try Irish or British slaves either -notoriously poor in the customer service department . They never smile -never tell you their name and piss in your soup before it’s served . Don’t go near the French or Russians either -always revolting . Germans and Chinese are your best bet -intelligent , disciplined people with only a small capacity to doubt the ‘wisdom’ of their ‘leader’ i.e you and will follow and obey even the most insane of orders to the letter.

Q.5- I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states -put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

    A.5

Only if he’s a Palestinian and disbelieves the Exodus epic . Otherwise make it a communal affair and invite other God loving/fearing neighbours to a shared killing .

    Q.6,
A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t disagree. Can this be settled on Monday’s Nolan?

    A.6

As I told you above old Lev was neurotic.  He was also dyslexic and a poor speller of english not to mention aramaic and hebrew . It was’nt shellfish that was the abomination it was smellyfish . Nolan does not need to be involved. He’s definitely going to hell that one .

    Q.7

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight---some wiggle room here?

    A.7

One thing about Lev is he never gave up eh -always one for causing unnecessary grief . You may have heard the expression the ‘blind leading the blind ‘ . Now consider the laughing stock our priests on the altar would be if this biblical adage were to uttered from the altar by one who is unsighted . Lev just took this to the N th degree as in those happy days 20/20 was unknown thus anyone with even a trace of a eye problem would be barred from the altar.

    Q.8
‘ Most of the guys I know get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

    A.8 .

Iroquoisation is most appropriate . Known also as scalping . Although more difficlt on the hairless it makes up by being more painful and thus more pleasing to me .

    Q.9

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

    A.9

No. All those who touch balls will go to hell . Lev was right.

Q.10- My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two diffeerent --- trouble of rallying the whole town together to stone them (Lev. 24:10-16)?

    A.10

Afraid so . The community that hates together - stones together -the community that stones together burns together - the community that burns together kills together . It’s all so simple really . I trust you have a nice communal stoning .

Just a word of advice . I disapprove of this modern Islamic high tech method of dumping stones into a hole in the ground by means of a truck hoist .This is very displeasing to me . It deprives the people of both ‘fun’ and ‘exercise ‘which as we know none of us get enough of in today’s obese society .

  20. On a ligher note, it’s good to see that the adverts on this blog have picked up on the subject, and we’re getting some offers for gay dating sites.  That’ll keep the bigots away, at least.

  21. Chris,

Why is the word “coloured” offensive? These people don’t seem to have a problem with it.

These threads are always interesting, in that they draw the religious and non-religious fundamentalists out of the woodwork.

  22. Wilde Rover......which *ahem* camp are you in then?

  23. “People of Color” is a phrase being increasingly used in the US.  In this country, describing someone as “coloured” is still considering rude.

I guess, simply not knowing that, suggests ignorance, or knowing it and using the phrase suggests that you don’t care if you sound rude or not.

    Posted by  on Jun 07, 2008 @ 02:18 PM
  24. The NAACP is an old organisation, and its name reflects the language of its time. Besides I get the impression that coloureds is somewhat different than coloured people. In the same way that darkies is extremely different than dark-skinned people.

The question is, when will a politician come out and ask why they can’t say things like taigs and huns, which we know a lot of them do in private.

    Posted by  on Jun 07, 2008 @ 02:46 PM
  25. Indeed TAFKABO. Similarly, pointing out (a la Matthew Parris and Peter Mandelson) that Nolan is himself gay is apparently cause for complete excision from Slugger. So long as we’re unable to even mention the sexuality of a public figure like Nolan (particularly when his sexuality is patently relevant to the current debate)then vermin like Iris de Mental will continue to flourish.
