I hope your ears are burning…

That is on the, perhaps vain, assumption that Marc Kerr Esq is not talking about me! He carefully maps what happens when the terminal boredom that arises from pointless, endless bouts of whataboutery sets in!

  1. The ‘ad hominem’ rule here works pretty well and makes Slugger the thinking man’s online forum.
Of course Mr.Kerr is right to lament the endless whataboutery. Yet the very phrase :
‘The Law of Slugger O’Trolls’ is a bit of a chuckle in itself. If you’re in the mood I guess.

  2. Mick (and by extension the moderators):

I wasn’t in anyway referring to you (lot) :) I even point out what a sterling job you all do, in the face of the onslaught.

  3. ‘It is only the intellectually lost who ever argue’

It’s a real time saver when you see a heading like the above. It saves so much time, without having to read further before you discover it wasn’t worth reading in the first place.

  4. Wow, slugger commenter passes judgement, misses Oscar Wilde quote, and puts up valid refutation to article. Who would have thought it?

  5. Mwk,

If your objective is to garner readership then a less subtle heading would go along way. Didn’t they teach that at journalism school?

In my own defence I’d just like to add - I am not young enough to know everything.

  6. Journalism school? I take that as a compliment, as I don’t consider myself an able writer. But then again, neither are most journalists able writers.

My objective was just to point out the endless round of whataboutery that goes on, with an attempt at wit in the naming of the corollary to Godwin, perhaps engender debate, perhaps annoy some people, who knows? And I like dear old Oscar, I thought the quote was appropriate. Perhaps I should have attributed it.

I also take as a compliment that you think me young. Hurrah! (And I will ignore any other implication that I am some sort of self-aggrandizing bighead.)

  7. What a lot of words to express such a simple point?

Maybe the author should spend a bit more time on message boards, the better to hone their skills at expressing themselves succinctly.
