From Rebels and Bandits to Criminals and Hoods

It’s no coincidence that Adams publicly met with PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde in Ballymurphy, known as a hotspot of the Troubles and where Adams’ Provisional career began. The symbolism of that shouldn’t escape anyone. Hot on the heels of the release of Operation Banner, the British Army’s take on how they neutralised the IRA, Conor Murphy, MP, is calling for the PSNI to crackdown on crime in Crossmaglen. It appears the choreography of Sinn Fein endorsement of the police is to pick off the symbolic areas of resistance one by one. Any wagers where next?

They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom
For trying to change the system from within
I’m coming now, I’m coming to reward them
First we take Ballymurphy, then we take Crossmaglen

  1. “In contrast his comments on Sinn Fein and the issue of policing carry accusations which are untrue and offensive. In addition Mr Reiss throws out unproven claims of lawlessness in nationalist areas. The fact is that the north of Ireland has the second lowest crime rate in Europe It is less than half of the average in Britain. There is no ‘rampant crime’ in nationalist or republican communities. On the contrary the nationalist and republican people are good, decent people who despite not having had a proper police service have remained law abiding. “

  2. Chris,

I’ve been trying to get information on this story all morning. I found the Examiner’s website but no headlines.

Is there anyway you could supply me with details of what’s going on??

    - There was always anti-social behavior in Cross, most of it due to drink or theft. In those days though, the threat of being dealt with severely was enough to discourage widespread/escalating anti-social behavior.

Surely you realise it could be possible for there NOT to be rampant crime 18 months ago but that there is rampant crime now? :-)

A difference with the stickies is that no-one seemed to ask them to give up guns / held to account for their numerous crimes....... essentially with a few exceptions they haven’t been given the scrutiny the provos. Maybe understandable given the passage of time.

I agree with your scepticism re industrial wage though....

“If the PSNI have perviously been so capable, how do you explain the lawlessness in The Tullycarnett’s, BAllybeen’s and Rathcooles’ of this world then...”

easy same comment with a few changes to proponents???
Surely this is just normal behaviour?? ( same as south armagh) who gives a flying fuck as long as it stays there.  The areas citizens and representatives have encouraged a disregard for law for generations-its now biting them in the arse?? hahahahahaha--
PSNI stay out let them stew or maybe the uvf could organise another we bomb and clear the area

  10. Macswinney: “You frequently come on here and make lots of generalised points attacking anyone and everyone. The one thing that always seems to be missing though are your own actual beliefs. ie do you have the courage to state which party you support what your political idealogy is etc...etc…”

Why should I give you any personal details? So you can put an easy label on me. Or is this some sort of threat. So much for man not ball.

And you didn’t even bother to address the point: that both the dissidents and the leaders in the republican movement are raking in the cash - that the PBI died for.

  11. CATCH 23 -

(OR, HOW THE NIO FUNDS UPHOLDING THE LAW IN SOUTH ARMAGH)

PSNI: We want to Police Crossmaglen
SF: We want you to police Crossmaglen
Crossmaglen: We want you to police Crossmaglen

    But, there’s a catch!

    Catch 23!

If everybody wants the Cross to be policed, there’s no need for any police at all as the community are now policing themselves. This will free up the remaining 6 operational PSNI staff not investigating themselves to do more outreach work on BME LGT’s or failing that nick the fuckers for using a phone while driving.

    Problem solved

  13. ‘for what died the sons of Róisín was it greed? Was it greed that drove Wolfe Tone to a pauper’s death in a cell of cold wet stone? For what died the sons of Róisín was it greed?’

For what did Conto sympathisers and other apologists for mass murder write bad poetry?  Was it an attempt to sound like Bobby Sands that drove them to inflict this shite on us on websites?

I presented cold hard facts to counter the absolute bullshit being spread about by certain posters on this thread.

heck, why don’t you just record that last post of yours on tape, as a recorded message to play for any frightened pensioners from Cross or Camlough that dial “999” in an emergency?  That should sort everything out nicely, at least to your satisfaction.
