It’s three years since the discovery of £2.3million in sterling in a bin at his home in Cork and, as noted in this report, two years since the submission of a file to the DPP. Today Ted Cunningham has been arrested again and is reportedly due to be charged with money-laundering. A second man is also facing charges. From the BBC report
Update From the Irish Times reportA garda spokesman said the two men would be facing separate charges, with only one charged with money laundering. He added: “These charges arise out of an investigation carried out by the Gardai in Cork following the robbery of the Northern Bank. “As part of the same investigation, a second man will also appear in court this morning charged with possession of ammunition.”
Timothy Cunningham was charged at Cork District Court with having more than £3.5 million worth of sterling and euro cash and cheques from the robbery in Belfast, in December 2004. The 59-year-old money lender, known as Ted, from Farran in Co Cork was charged with trying to launder the money by disposing of it through friends and business associates.

Mr Cunningham is understood to have told police the money belonged to a group of Bulgarian businessmen he had dealings with and was not connected to the Northern Bank money.

And one of those who accompanied him to Bulgaria, Phil Flynn, later told his story in an interview in the Village magazine.

The 10 charges he faces include possession of £3.01 million from the Northern Bank robbery, a cheque for €56,000 from the heist, which he gave to his son, Timothy Junior, and two cheques worth €144,000, also from the bank job, which he lodged to a bank account in Co Wicklow.
He was also charged with having a Mitsubishi Pajero car worth €10,000, bought with money from the heist.
Two other cars were said to have been bought with cash from the theft.
Another charge states that Cunningham had £175,360 from the robbery which he gave to an associate in return for €200,000 in cheques.

The DUP should have insisted on Sinn Fein PIRA giving up the money before allowing them into Government. Despite their denials, even the dogs in the street know they did it. SF PIRA shouldn’t be allowed to have illegal money buying up businesses etc yet be positions of authority in the Government of Northern Ireland. The ordinary man and woman has to earn their crust of bread while SF PIRA criminals are put into high office.

Just once, I’d like to see you stand up that accusation. You’ve been asked by quite a few people to do so, and on every occasion you refuse.
For the record, I run an open house here. I’m keen to see robust exchange, and particularly keen to see people challenge each other on their ‘facts’ and integrity of argument.
But there’s no place here for consistent man playing or fair gaming. I’m agin it, mostly because there is a corrosive intellectual vacuity at its base.
A prime example is the Squinter thread. There are a number of commenters on there who have made it their business to attack Pete Baker, for blogging precisely the same argument they are now falling over themselves to agree with Squinter on.
As L Ron Hubbard might say: “May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.”
In short: put up, or shut up!

If it is, and the Revenue are satisfied with his tax affairs, it seems a tad optimistic for the Gardaí to be thinking that they can press and succeed with money laundering charges?
However it does fit in with a theory of continuous prosecution of charges which ultimately fall flat - but it does give copy to hacks who would otherwise be questioning the effectiveness of the Garda/PSNI investigation into this robbery?
I feel this is another optical prosecution and a few years down the road we will see that it will come to naught......

Surely this needs to be borne in mind before subjecting the man to a ‘trial by media’ process of character assassination.

Can it be that when you use “anticatholic bigots”, Twinbrook, infact you are referring to bloggers who express views which to you means they are not catholics ie unionists who are prejudiced against catholics. Infact P and C have more nuanced identities than “unionist”,"Nationalist", “catholic” etc can accomodate.

Weird. A party with 30% of the vote that thinks it can dictate the composition of the government! What if the other 70% think differently?
Fortunately however, we are fast approaching the day when the DUP’s disapproval has any relevance. I doubt that any future assembly will have a Unionist/Loyalist majority- even one that was elected next month. So all SF has to do is provoke a new election and the Unionist veto will be sidelined.

Surely a SF fantasy would encompass a SF majority? An Assembly in which the Green Party and Alliance hold the balance of power is surely a GP/Alliance party fantasy?

Why should DUP/Shankill Butchers be allowed into power when they have not confessed to all the murders they committed yet? What right do you have to conflate political parties with illegal organisations that I do not have?
