Facebook v FARC
Massive protests against FARC have taken place in Colombia and in almost 100 other cities across the world. The outpouring is even more extraordinary as it began as the idea of a 33 year old Colombian Facebook member:
The protest was started less than a month ago on the social networking website Facebook by a 33-year-old engineer, Oscar Morales, from his home in Barranquilla on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Over 250,000 Facebook users signed on, and the movement was taken up by newspapers and radio and television stations across the country.

I think there is a concern though that at a time when there are negotiated settlements and the possibility of actually getting some longer term resolution the right have used this to try to drive a wedge into those very positive moves.
It’s interesting that by and large human rights groups in Colombia and even many of Farc’s direct political opponents have opposed this action because of the implications for the process.
I’d have to ask does this day of action help or hinder peaceful solutions in Columbia - A lot of people seem to be saying that they are not helpful.

Might just take a wee paid vacation there myself. I hear the rebels pay well for foreign tuition, especially if received from the Irish.

What, like FARC’s negotiating in bad faith to turn over three prisoners, one of which they didn’t have, trying to cover their own deception by claiming the government scotched the trade?
