DUP Minister for Gay Equality voices homosexual hatred…

AFTER one DUP minister spent most of the day lecturing other parties that they were in breach of the ministerial code, another DUP minister appears to be in breach of, um, the ministerial code. Junior Minister, Paisley Junior, says he’s “repulsed” by gays and added: “I think it is wrong. I think that those people harm themselves and - without caring about it - harm society.” As part of his daddy’s office, Junior is partly responsible for delivering equality - as well as £180,000 grant aid to gay, lesbian and bisexual support groups - and his Pledge of Office includes a commitment to “act in accordance with the general obligations on government to promote equality and prevent discrimination”, while the Code obliges him to “operate in a way conducive to promoting good community relations and equality of treatment”. Paisley Minor is entitled to his views, but as a minister isn’t he bound by a code that requires him to keep the prejudiced, bigoted or sectarian ones to himself?

  1. WHat do you expect from a man so that has so little strength of character that all he was ever amount to is a pale shadow of his father.

  2. I as a Christian am appalled by acts of sodomy.

However baby doc´s lack of compassion is equally abominable in the eyes of God.

Love thy neighbour, even if he wants to touch your bum.

  8. What does it matter to Junior what other adults do in the privacy of their own homes? Perhaps they should all get on with governing NI instead of picking on a new group of people that don’t quite fit in the Ulster white Protestant group

  9. Rather more important than Paisley Jr’s bigotted rantings are the views of his colleague, Edwin Poots, who to date has been very quiet on *this kind of thing*

As Supremo for Culture and Leisure one would hope to see him show a more enlightened attitude towards such events as the Belfast Pride week and parade.

  10. “Perhaps they should all get on with governing NI instead of picking on a new group of people that don’t quite fit in the Ulster white Protestant group”

Surely the blame for opening the discussion should rest at the feet of the ‘journalist’ who asked the question, no?

Describing it as ‘hatred’ is just tabloidism, particularly when he specifically said he doesn’t hate gays.

And let me make clear I hate IP Jr, but the treatment that his answer has received in the media today (particularly on BBC Newsline) was pathetic.

If the answer is liable to offend then don’t ask the question. It’s not like we didn’t all already know.

Let’s just watch and see if it impacts upon his ability to do his job.

  11. Northern Ireland elected as its First Minister—and has consistently returned as its most popular politician—a man who created a campaign called “Save Ulster From Sodomy” and bought a fake degree from a young-earth creationist fundamentalist loony.

And his son, cut from the same cloth, also hates and fears homosexuals? NO! SAY IT AIN’T SO!

  12. It’s all very well to ‘hate the sin but love the sinner’, but when you make a promise to help out the sinners and treat them as you would anyone else, wouldn’t it just be better to shut up?

Is it not in the least bit odd that the money Mr Paisley’s department is giving to gay people being used to protect their way of life from people with Mr Paisley’s views?

And if he was inclined to put his department’s money where his mouth is, wouldn’t that be illegal?

  14. Now does this surprise anybody.Haha.Junior,the wet blanket, living off his da’s rep.I wish I was living back home so I could lodge a complaint…it might look a little funny with a foreign stamp. It might not be hatred, but it’s a damn sight obnoxious as a human being and irresponsible as an assembly member.

  15. The title “DUP Minister for Gay Equality voices homosexual hatred…” says more about Gonzo than Baby Doc.

The BBC link reports “A junior minister in the Northern Ireland Executive has been criticised for allegedly saying he was “repulsed” by homosexuals.” In fact, it specifically quotes him
““That doesn’t mean to say that I hate them. I mean, I hate what they do.”

Bit of a manufactured row - Martina Anderson and Dolores Kelly ?

Better title might have been “Gonzo voices hatred for Paisley Jnr”

  16. Maggot

    Wrong.

‘Homosexual’ in the title is clearly an adjective and not a noun. As such, it’s a fair reflection of what Paisley voiced, as he himself - as you point out - said he hated the practices rather than the people.

  18. I have read the minsiterial code and I fail to see what terms Junior has breached. Martin McGuinness recently described his father as a bigot - this owuld also fall foul using the same rationale.

It is very ironic that many of those attacking Ian Paisley Jr here use pejorative language to describe Fundamentalism, Christianity, Creationism etc. If he cannot say he is repulsed by men committing unnatural acts with other men, then what kind of a society are we living in.

We are truly living in an insane world - what was universally held to be insane the chattering class here and the political elite say is sane and vice versa. Why stop at sodomy - why not stop the “discrimination” against those wanting to engage in bestiality, incest, paedophilia and polygamy?

However, the ultimate irony is Martina “the Bomber” Anderson complaining when not so long ago she was planting bombs to blow into pieces her fellow human beings and refuses to apologise for it. Ian Jr may have used a few words but that is far removed from semtex!

  19. “I don’t hate homosexuals but I’m repulsed by them.”  A complete nonsense statement, which only makes Baby Doc and those defending him look stupid.

Oh, and why does every homophobe think gay men want to have sex with them?  Is that because you have uncontrollable lusts towards absolutely every female or something?  Or are you all just under the delusion that you are pussy magnets?

  21. That’s struggling Gonzo. After all you go on to write ““repulsed” by gays and added: “I think it is wrong. I think that those people harm themselves and - without caring about it - harm society.””

Be honest man - you were Junior bashing!

  23. They fact of the matter is mini-me made biggoted homophobic comments, in public, after being nominated by his own party as the spokesperson for the minority he claimed disgusted him.  Like the majority of homophobes he covers his envy and jealousy with hate.  If a straight man could go to a bar and be almost guaranteed to score he’d never leave the place.

  25. Ian Paisley is not afraid of gay men but he is repulsed by their unnatural acts. Why can’t you see the difference.

This new phrase “homophobe” means to be afraid of the same which I doubt is true for IP. Why stop here lets invent some more catch phrases like fataphobe, paedophobe, terroristaphobe etc. IP is entitled to his views and the only bigotted ones here are the ones denying him and his electorate the right to freely express them.
