Death threats still flying about
The Sunday Business Post reported that Castlereagh break-in suspect, Larry Zaitschek, was informed by the FBI his life would be in danger if he returns to Belfast. The article said that Zaitschek’s wife was under continuing threat from the IRA. Now, Jim Allister has confirmed from the PSNI that the life of his wife is under threat and she remains in Witness Protection.
Fair Deal @ 09:29 AM
I expect SF/IRA to issue a statement saying that they condemn any form of violence and that no such threats some from their ranks.
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 10:20 AMIn the light of what happened to Denis Donaldson and the IMC’s belief that some members of the IRA retained weapons this has to be taken seriously.
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 10:23 AMAgh and Cruimh,
Sorry for letting the facts of the story get in the way of your little soundbites but nowhere does it state that the FBI believe that the threat against him is from the IRA. The source of the threat is not named.
Furthermore, if Zaitshek’s defence is based around his absolute conviction that he has never had anything whatsoever to so with the IRA, then why on earth would they threaten him...?
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 10:32 AMMac - what are you on about ? I was thinking about the threat to Mrs Z .
Read the links before spouting.

“Sorry for letting the facts of the story get in the way”
Perhaps you didn’t get this far in the piece.
“In a further twist Zaitschek received a letter in April from PSNI chief constable Hugh Orde, saying that his estranged partner is still under threat from the IRA,”
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 10:35 AMFD,
The letter didn’t actually say that. That was Jim Allister’s application of spin which as he clarifies later was applied in the hope that devolved administration would be collapsed.
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 10:50 AMIt might be worth considering that the IRA is the party most likely to benefit from Larry’s survival - therefore perhaps the PSNI should think twice before ‘naming’ the IRA as the prime source of a death threat. Perhaps the threat is from someone closer to the PSNI home. After all, they do have a pretty poor track record on that front, particularly destroying evidence....Remember the fire which torched the Steven’s Enquiry....

“The letter didn’t actually say that. That was Jim Allister’s application of spin which as he clarifies later was applied in the hope that devolved administration would be collapsed.”
Incorrect I am afraid. The quote and the reference to a letter is from the Sunday Buisness Post NOT Jim Allister
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 10:53 AM“It might be worth considering that the IRA is the party most likely to benefit from Larry’s survival”
That might hold if ,as he claims, he is innocent.
And the IRA certainly has the most to gain if he isn’t extradited - so a death threat would take care of that nicely.

Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 11:07 AMDoes the panel think it more or less likely there will be an increase in violence against Catholics given the timing and nature of McAllisters remarks?
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 11:49 AMFD,
I apologise. I missed the subsequent part relating to Orde’s comments.
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 12:11 PMIt’s in Allister’s best interest to talk up an alleged threat. Whata joke.
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 01:47 PMIRA, IRAQ, IRAN anybody see a pattern forming here?
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 02:40 PMCURIOUS - you’re not Jim Cusack, by any chance? The other week he was reporting in the Sindo on a ‘Belfast Type Bomb’ exploding in Iraq. The only thing missing from the piece was ‘after the explosion, a car was seen speeding in the direction of the Lower Falls’.

No need for an apology. It happens to everyone at some stage on a thread.
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 04:59 PMWhere exactly is the death threat?
Hugh Orde wrote to Zaitschek stating his “wifes life was under thread from the IRA”. This is Mr Ordes opinion yet there has been no specific death thread from the IRA.
The FBI have advised Zaitschek that if he returned to NI his life would be in danger. They didn’t state the source of the danger.
The PNSI’s response to Allister stated they believed Mrs Zaitschek life would be risk if her whereabouts became known. The reply, despite Allisters intonation in is question, didn’t state where the source of the risk came from.
Allister is grasping at straws here.
It obvious that the purpose of Orde’s letter to Zaitschek was to raise enough suspicion about his safety, such that the FBI would block his extradition back to NI. I would seem the PNSI do not want the Castlereagh break in to be properly investigated.

Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 07:21 PMRegarding Alister, what is his goal-state these days?
He basically kicks himself out of the DUP calling them appeasers and sits in Brussels in the seat he would not have if not for the DUP.
Now he doesn’t sit at Stormont, of course he wouldn’t what with Sinn Fein in the executive and all. But he appears to be trying to give marching orders to Arlene Foster regarding the “Terrorist Shrine” at the Maze site and is now submitting his findings to the IMC, of all things. Wasn’t the IMC something the UUP came up with that the DUP held in immediate low esteem?
Does anyone think he has a future in politics beyond the next election?
Posted by on Jul 07, 2007 @ 07:36 PMPlum Duff, no I not Jim Cusack, however the Taliban are using IRA bomb techniques in Iran.

Posted by on Jul 08, 2007 @ 12:09 PMIsn’t she in the Witness Protection Scheme because she is going to give evidence against her husband and is consequently at risk?
