Big brother, big bother

Following up on the alleged SF-aligned spy ring being busted, today’s Sunday Times has an article from Liam Clarke with more details. Text of article below the fold.

Dissidents in ‘web hacking’ row

Liam Clarke, Sunday Times
22 March 2009

An online forum popular with dissident republicans was taken offline last week after users discovered the administrators were Sinn Fein supporters and activists. There have been accusations that private messages and an e-mail account were accessed.

Irishrepublican.net was taken down after a flurry of e-mails from users alleging data breaches. “Very few people knew this forum was being run by Sinn Fein people,” said one. “Since I came off, I believed my private email has been hacked. It had the same password as my forum membership.”

The forum was owned by Geri Timmons, an American who works part-time at Sinn Fein’s Dublin bookshop, Daithi Byrne, from Navan, whose Facebook page describes him as a “senior consultant and activist” for Sinn Fein, and Deborah McCamon, an Arizona based Sinn Fein supporter who severed links with the site after the allegations surfaced.

McCamon and Timmons started the forum in 2007, using multiple aliases. Timmons was known as Seabird or Deckie, while McCamon called herself Hildy and Koneko.

“Geri was meeting members [of the forum] in Dublin, but they had no idea who she was,” said McCamon. “The longer this deception went on, the more uncomfortable I felt, but Geri seemed to revel in it. It was when I suspected Geri and Daithi might have been reading private messages between members that I balked. We argued and I walked out.”

The row went public last month when a site member claimed her messages had been accessed. The site closed temporarily and members were told there had been a “breach in security” by hackers.

Irishrepublican.net was popular because of the range of views expressed and the openness of the debate. Many members posted in support of dissident groups such as the IRSP, RSF, the 32 County Sovereignty Committee and newer groups such as Republican Network for Unity.

Byrne and Timmons said they had no immediate comment on the allegations. The site was back online last night.

  1. This now clearly highlights the levels to which the Provisional SF Leadership will stoupe too!

  2. This does not surprise me but intellingence gathering comes in all sorts of guises, you dont know if it is MI5 or the CIA.

Whether or not this is intelligence gathering by Sinn Fein or not, I would now imagine that hatred of SF by republican dissidents is at such a level that we will soon be hearing about murders of SF members.

    Your comments:-

“I would now imagine that hatred of SF by republican dissidents is at such a level that we will soon be hearing about murders of SF members”.

Sinn Fein are provoking reactions from people in every sense.

The biggest MI5 Agent of them all Martin McGuinness calls dedicated Republican Families “Traitor” and expects to get no reaction.

Sinn Fein are ARE PART OF THE BRITISH WAR MACHINE in Ireland and as a result of such are probably consisered by many now as a Legitimate Target.

I think that there is no level t that the Provisional Leadership would not stoupe too!

In South Derry and Areas in Tyrone they lecture people about the cause - They now are NOT PART OF IT!

I think that you will soon see them take their seats in Westminister!

So they could do some constituency work? That would be nice.

Similar to the MESS that they are making in the Puppet government in Stormont???

I can see Martin McGuinness meeting Michael collins in a historical comparison very soon if things continue the way they are going

Better watch my word or Mick Fealty will be sending this to MI5!

Jesus man, get a hobby! Take a holiday or two, relax a little. Seriously. You sound unhealthy.

  14. You know, reading the above I still get the distinct impression this was a case of 3 women having an interpersonal spat and reading private emails for their own personal amusement rather than a grand intelligence-gathering scheme to track “subversives.”

  16. This “controversy” is ridiculous. For one thing, anyone posting on a “dissident” forum better figure that SOMEONE is keeping their eye on the forum for any relevant information. Anyone sending a Private Message should remember that “Admin” can access whatever they damn well please.

  18. A simple Google search shows that Geri Timmons was a self-identified SF supporter (https://www.indymedia.ie/article/76467?&condense_comments=false#comment152592):

    —-

“Everyone has an opinion but is it appropriate to deface property to express ones views? What is the alternative to Sinn Féin’s policies? Who has a better answer? Instead of complaining do some positive action moves within your community. If you aren’t a part of the solution then you are a part of the problem.

As for me I’ll keep my money riding on Sinn Féin, I personally feel they will take us into a United Ireland.”

So what exactly was a secret about this?

  20. Rory a wee question for you, is it ok for you and others to call Martin McGuinness a tout, agent, informer and even that foul traitor word but when he calls so called dissidents traitors you go ballisitic, WHY?

The blatant hypocracy of Marty Mc maddens most Real Republicans!

Years ago i will take you back too 2 incidents:-

(1). Paddy Flood who was tortured & executed for
        colluding with the British State

(2). Rory Finnis a young boy who was kidnapped
taken across the border tortured, shot and
dumped at the foot of Creggan for colluding
        wih the Crown Forces

    These are only 2 examples

So what makes them different from PSF and Marty

    Nothing - ALL TOUTS

Now for that man to stand up at Stormont the temple to British Colonial Rule in Ireland is Joke

    Marty Meehan Jr

Seabird is probably a paid British agent and a prominent member of PSF

Bet you’ve shook his hand before

  23. Rory I still don’t get your point. Two informers killed during the conflict are you saying the army was right to shoot these two people or were they wrong and secondly you didn’t answer my original question are you and the likes of you the only ones who have the right to an opinion.

(1). The Army were right to remove the 2
        Individuals

(2). PSF no longer have the right to a Republican
        Opinion

Hope I have made myself clear a chara!
