Aer Lingus pilots call off strike

Aer Lingus pilots have called off the threatened strike action planned for a 48-hour period this week. Meanwhile, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has asked a “high level inter-departmental group” to examine the options for alternative air links to Shannon.

  1. “alternative” air links, not reinstatement eh?  And will these talks with the Atlantic Alliance members include asking them how many times they use the LHR service, how much they would pay in fares to keep it and so on?

There’s a story that when a delegation from West Cork arrived in Dublin to ask Todd Andrews about retaining the Railway, Andrews asked them how they got to Dublin - the answer: car.

[a bit of googling reveals Dan Boyle related that story in the Dail in 2003.]

  3. Many thanks to Aer Lingus pilots for cutting three of my friends holidays considerably short, and seriously inconveniencing mine, only to decide that they wont be striking after all.  My sympathy for their cause couldn’t be higher after this little incident, and I’m delighted that they are now happier about their situation, while three people are at home in the rain when they were to be on holiday in the sun.
