Abduction and shooting under cross-border investigation
Not much detail on this case yet but I’ll briefly note what is available. Two men from Derry have been arrested in connection with the abduction and assault of a couple in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, last night. The couple were taken to Derry and both were assaulted and the 42-year old man was shot in both ankles. RTÉ reports that the couple are originally from Northern Ireland.
Added some additional detail, from the RTÉ reportA cross-border investigation is under way after four men travelling in a white Ford Transit Van forcibly removed the couple, aged 38 and 42, from their rented home on the Newbrook Road sometime between 8pm and 9pm.
The woman was dressed in a white boiler suit when found in High Park in the Creggan area of Derry early this morning, the man who had been beaten and shot was wearing only his underwear.
and from the Irish Times today
Officers from the PSNI interviewed the couple yesterday and also arrested two men who are believed to have paramilitary links.

Hopefully the savages who carried out this attack will be brought before the courts in both jurisdictions and given lengthy jail sentences in each. I reckon 15 to 20 years for the kidnapping in Ireland and whatever the UK judicial system sees fit to impose upon them for the shooting.

Glad to see you made up for missing your usually-ubiquitous SF reference in your first post. Still it’s refreshing to see your thought process laid out:
Crime + Nationalist area = baseless and irrelevant rant on Slugger.
Still, what more can we expect of someome whose nom de plume is inspired by a particularly bland cheese
Posted by on Apr 24, 2007 @ 04:49 PMI made no statement about who carried out the savage attack. You made an assumption and projected it, child.
Having posted your assumption - and noting your propensity to play down sectarian crimes committed by the murderers you support - I commented that said savages were eminently qualified to be members of PSF. Although many would counterclaim that they are under-qualified since they merely kidnapped a viciously assualted a woman and maimed their male victim whilst the leader of your party was the architect of the infamous “Disappeared” policy that duly kidnapped and permanently ‘disappeared’ Jean McConville.

I never said you did. But by your second post you were blabbing about Shinners. You’ll find its you who are ‘projecting’.
..child.
If I was female would you have said ‘Woman’ there?
btw I’ve been coming to this site for about 7 years now, so your condescending snobbbery is sadly misjudged.
Having posted your assumption
As I’ve already noted, no assumptions were posted by me. Now as for you:
and noting your propensity to play down sectarian crimes committed by the murderers you support
What was that you were saying about ‘projecting’?

Comment, Pete/Mick?Posted by on Apr 24, 2007 @ 09:14 PMThis seems like a lot of effort and planning. Getting 4 men and a transit van (presumably now burned) and then a long drive, abduction, drive back - with attended risks, then torture and shooting.
RTE says that it was thought to be a financial dispute. Must have been worth more than the price of a transit van plus guns.
Posted by on Apr 25, 2007 @ 08:59 AMThe links of the initial 2 arrested will coeme out in due course, if they get charged.
