Peer to peer tribute to Darren Rodgers from Republic fans…

I’m guessing that life as a fan in France just now carries with a heightened sense of what’s happening elsewhere in the country. But this afternoon in Paris there was a short burst of sympathy between Irish fans for the tragic death of Darren Rodgers.

It was a tribute that did not go unnoticed at home in Belfast…

I have attended association football games from the age of 7 or so and have been a season ticket holder at the oldest professional football ground in the world for 43 years.

Additionally, I have attended many GAA grounds and have been at four All Ireland Hurling finals and one semi final at Croke Park.

English football supporters can on occasion be funny witty and amusing, unfortunately an element among them can also be aggressive, threatening, xenophobic and downright embarrassing.

The Irish, in a crowd are a credit to themselves.

Condolences to the loved ones of Darren Rodgers, RIP.

Mick as a ROI supporter from the North it fills me with an immense sense of pride at the moving tributes to the young NI fan who so tragically lost his life. No one should go to a football match and not return. My condolences to the lads family I have a son of the same age and cant begin to imagine the pain this young mans family are going through. #coybig #gawa

Absolutely devastating that this young man has lost his life in what should have been one of the best moments in his life.

Full credit to the fans of the ROI yesterday for their fantastic gesture.

A few weeks (possibly only a week?) after Nevin Spence tragically passed, Ulster were away to Leinster. Just before kick-off, a small section of the Leinster fans sang the same. Classy on both occasions.
