Turas, by Colin Neill – a story of strangers in a strange land
Tweet Colin Neill’s first novel Turas peeks into a world in which many Ulster Protestants feel uncomfortable. It’s 2020 and the Irish unification that unionists and loyalists confidently predicted would never happen has become a reality. President Adams is ensconced in Phoenix Park. The newsreader reported that … a short ceremony at Stormont had confirmed [...] read our review »

The ANC, the IRA and the rise of influence of the left within Sinn Fein…
Tweet World by Storm has a nice piece up on the IRA’s role in helping MK, the armed wing of the ANC, in the 1980s. In particular he sees a strange alchemy at work there: …if one can think of a clearly legitimate contemporary struggle it was that against apartheid and it is to the [...] read our review »

Learning from 1798?: Northern Ireland’s Upcoming Decade of Commemorations
Tweet Last year, the Lilliput Press released a new extended edition of Tom Dunne’s Ewart-Biggs Memorial Prize winning book, Rebellions: Memoir, Memory and 1798. First published in 2004, Dunne’s book provoked considerable controversy with its critique of the ‘commemorationist’ history that Dunne believed dominated the 1998 commemorations of the 1798 Rebellion. The book blasted the [...] read our review »

Very good henry94!
‘Our dray will come!’
‘Give us a capall o’ yon burgers.’ Wee bilingual one, there.
I go into the Sinn Fein shop to buy some of their burgers.
Guess what.
They’re off!
[WARNING: THESE REPUBLICAN BURGERS MAY CONTAIN UNIONISM]
Great captions there from Henry94 and babyface finlayson. It appears that Steak-Knife and Meat Loaf are both unavailable for comment. People in the RoI aren’t allowed to buy sausages unless they’re frankfurters.
Sinn Fein Burgers is an Equine Opportunities Employer.
Recommended by Winnie Mandela.

Did these results come from a gallop poll?
In many countries horsemeat is one of the stable foods.
This is juat a poll of a random 1000 people and of course the elephant in the room is the current state of the ROI economy.
Come the next election it will be back to normal with the gap between unionism and nationalism further narrowing as the two main religious head for parity in numbers.
SF don’t really want a poll tomorrow, they want one several years down the line.
This is just start of a long debate.
Dunno, babyface, but SF always told us they were trotskyite. I know I shan’t be ordering saddle of beef for a while.
Need to watch the dessert menu as well. You don’t want to ingest a strawbery roan ice cream by mistake. Or Red Rum babas.
Mind you, a whipped syllabub sounds like fun.

I’m pretty sure you used that one on another thread. Chancer.

Are you saying the main course is yet to come and this is just the horse d’oeuvres?
babyface,
Guilty as charged, like the Light Brigade.
‘Horses for [main] courses’. A new novel by Cathal Gelding, author of ‘The Burgers of Calais’.
