Jim McGuinness on leadership: what it is and how to do it…

Whilst I am at it, congratualtions to Celtic for making it through to the last 16. I’m no fan of the club, but I am a big fan of their latest recruit, Glenties man, Jim McGuinness. This is the best I could do with his interview on Saturday night. Well worth watching all the way through for a master class on leadership. Apologies for the poor quality of the sound.

I watched the Brendan O’Connor show in which Jim Mc Guinness was interviewed last Saturday. For a person who can be very opinionated in the Sunday Independent,I thought O’Connor was fairly restrained and confined himself to fairly routine and obvious questions.I would like to have heard from Jim why he insisted that Declan Bogue(Belfast Telegraph)leave the post All Ireland press conference last September .His views on press freedom would have been interesting !It seems that the resentment at Bogues book in which he interviewed Kevin Cassidy has not gone away.Apart from that, there is no doubt that Jim has huge motivational qualities which enabled him to galvanise an average Donegal team into All-Ireland champions in the space of two years. He wisely noted that he was not looking beyond next years first round clash with Tyrone at Ballybofey.Surely one of the most awaited games of 2013!

I heard on the UTVevening news, reported that Celtic had got through to ko stages of the European Cup as it was before it became CL, only 3 times in their history. I could have sworn it was three already before this one, 1967[Lisbon Lions won], 1970[lost to Feyonoord], 1974 lost to atletico madrid in now notorious semifinal.

Celtic have participated in the modern CL many times, this is the third time Celtic have qualified for the CL last 16. They also participated many times, and with great success, in the old European Cup.
