Gaelscéal: An Ghaeilge in East Belfast

Tuairisc le Colm Ó Broin

Tá grúpa i gceantar Dílseachta i mBéal Feirste ag smaoineamh ar ghrúpa tuismitheoirí agus páistí Gaeilge a thosú amach anseo.

Má éiríonn leis tá seans ann go mbunófar naíscoil (nó naíonra mar a ghlaotar orthu ó dheas) nó fiú bunscoil lánGhaeilge san am atá le teacht. Deir Grúpa Gaeilge Mhisean Bhéal Feirste Thoir nach bhfuil plean ann naíscoil nó bunscoil a oscailt sa ghearr théarma, agus gur plé amháin atá i gceist faoi láthair.

Gaelscéal na seachtaine seo

É sin ráite tá sé suntasach go bhfuiltear ag plé na ceiste i gceantar Dílseachta.

Tá paróisteachas agus imní faoi cháilíocht do chumainn áitiúla CLG ag cur moille ar bhunú Gaelscoileanna sna Sé Chontae de réir iniúchta atá déanta ag Gaelscéal.

Idir an dá linn tá daltaí ó Rang a Sé i nGaelscoil i mBaile Átha Cliath á múineadh i dteach tábhairne toisc go bhfuil poll i ndíon a seomra ranga réamhdhéanta de bharr stoirme. Sea, i dteach tábhairne.

An Irish language group in East Belfast is looking at the possibilities of setting up a parent and child group in the area. If all goes well they may look at starting a naíscoil (Irish language nursery school) or even a bunscoil (primary school) in the future.

Grúpa Gaeilge Misean Bhéal Feirste Thoir stress however that developments are at a very early stage and that there is no plan to open a naíscoil in the near future. Even so, the fact that this is being discussed in a Loyalist area is significant in itself.

Gaelscéal also reports on the difficulties faced by a new school in a mainly nationalist area in Down, Gaelscoil na mBeann. The school caters for children in four parishes in the area and apparently there was concern in GAA circles that attendance could affect which clubs the pupils were eligible to play for.

Parochialism, in its literal sense, also played a role as some parents were reluctant to break the tradition of sending their children to the local Catholic parish school.

Meanwhile, Sixth Class students from a Gaelscoil in Dublin are being taught in a pub due to storm damage to the roof of their prefab class. Yes, in a pub.
