Red Arrows Perform Olympic Flypasts Across UK

The RAF Red Arrows are performing formation flypasts across the UK to mark the start of the London 2012 Olympic games.  Starting in Edinburgh at 12.23pm, Belfast was the second stop at 1.01pm, followed by Cardiff at 4.21pm with the Olympic stadium in London scheduled for 8.12pm.  The BBC video from Belfast is not embeddable, but here is some eyewitness video from Belfast.

They were responding to widespread criticism from Saturday’s opening day of competition, when whole sections of lower-tier seats were largely empty at events including tennis, gymnastics and swimming.

    Taggart,

You have produced a number of reports which highlight the fact that it was neccessary to bring in the troops because of the failings of G4S.

Thank you for helping to reinforce the point that the troops were required.

Strange that you should wish to contradict your own silly claims though.

Organisers made the request so personnel would appear less “aggressive”. Top brass refused.”

Craig is correct – because of the Olympic Games, London has gone into full martial law lock-down. Never before in peace-time has the capital city of the formerly Great Britain seen such a military ‘defensive’ presence: missile launchers on local tower blocks primed to blow straying commercial airliners out of the skies over London, regardless of “collateral damage”; anti-aircraft bunkers dug in on Greenwich common; and naval destroyers moored on the Thames.

    Taggart,

When these Olympics are over you will have a wealth of google information to try and prove your allegations with.

I wish you good luck, but I strongly suspect that you will follow the usual long line of Tyrone disappointments.

  • ArdoyneUnionist

TT, what we can take form your posts is your pathological hatred of anything British and Her Majesties Armed Forces. There again Tyrone was always a hot bed for republican sectarianism and bigotry.

I said that at the outset that having the UK military so prominent in the Great Britain Olympics was a bad idea for the image of the country.

I was asked to show some examples and I did of bad press in the English language.

As my view of the matter is shared by the Guardian newspaper. I am left to wonder do you think they ” pathological hatred of anything British and Her Majesties Armed Forces” ?

  • The Lodger

    Taggart,

You have so far failed to provide any evidence that the use of the British military has created a bad image of the country. Indeed they have been prominent at Wimbledon for decades without a negative comment from anyone, though admittedly I do not take An Phoblacht.

The alleged bad image which you have been wittering on about relates to the failures of a private security company G4S and I am quite sure that Brazil will take lessons from that debacle.

When these Olympics are over the big story will be how successful they were. Unless any of your fellow countrymen manage to commit a terrorist outrage in the middle of it in which case the story will be that not enough troops were deployed.

“As my view of the matter is shared by the Guardian newspaper. I am left to wonder do you think they ” pathological hatred of anything British and Her Majesties Armed Forces” ?”

You imagine that the Guardianistas might be self hating leftie bed wetters?

    Never!

Are you on about people from Northern Ireland?

“Are you on about people from Northern Ireland?”

    Taggart,

Not exclusively. Though the vast majority of violent republicans do originate from there.
