Engelbert Humperdinck will represent the UK…
RTÉ may be trying again with the terrible twins, but the BBC have decided to send a relative newcomer to the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku this year – the 75 year old Arnold George Dorsey, better known as Engelbert Humperdinck. No members of the public were consulted in the decision.
Will he do better than Blue’s 11th place finish last year…

Is this the most cunningest plan ever cunningly devised in the deepest recesses of Baldrickian cunning? No expensive sets, no dancing girls, no months of expensive planning and choreography, etc. Just an oul’ codger, a second hand set of crimpolene flares, a touch of big hair dye and a large neon sign, rear stage, flashing, ‘We don’t want to win! We can’t afford it!’
I think RTE are using a similar ploy with Jedward.
Magnificent tactical move, Engeldinck is just MASIVE is Eastern Europe, thats where the votes are folk!
Sheer brilliance.
Possibly the best send up in years. Next year Ali G or Borat ?
Just when we thought Ireland had locked down the market in ridiculous Eurovision representatives, the Brits decide to show us who’s boss…
It all seem so autocratic.
What ever happened to democracy.
This is the kind of thing that happens when you have unelected heads of state.
They have gone too far. Let the revolution begin.
DR ,
Please tell me ” engeldinck ” was a typo
“What ever happened to democracy.”

I know you’re just taking a cheap shot, but really.
Jedward? John Waters repeated efforts? Or the turkey?
Not to mention the previous results of the BBC consulting the public on who their Eurovision entrant should be…
Ah, the good old days.
Re; Pete Baker.
I was only having a laugh and I really can’t argue with the selection of links that you put up there.
Englebert Humperdink is about as far out left field as they could go and sure you never know.
He had a couple or three good songs and though I may not be the best judge he was a fine looking fellow in his day.
I wonder if he was selected for his breath-taking rendition of that catchy tune: ‘Lesbian Seagull’?
I kid you not: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPTXVqETBM4
