Alex’s New Year Message….it’s time !

Sat 31 December 2011, 12:15am

Super stuff from Alex.

Watch it all – it ain’t long – quote below.

Our universities, colleges and scientific institutions are working on cures for the illnesses that beset humankind as well as the renewable energy machines and environmental initiatives that will make human progress compatible with the future of our planet.”

But he added: “If we are going to shape the future we must make some changes to the present – and that means taking more control over our destiny.

Well, it’s a “super” non sequitur!!!!

However, new Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont urged the Government to “get on” with the referendum.

She hit out: “The longer Alex Salmond delays, the more it suggests he fears the verdict of the Scottish people.”

    Indeed.

At last some inkling of how dangerous this all is for the Unionist Parties is sinking in in England, which has either the most to lose in the break-up of the United Kingdom, or alternatively, the most to gain.
The Unionist case in Scotland is not just not being well made by the pro-union parties, it is not being made at all and the SNP prospers in this policy desert.
There will not be a Referendum before 2014 but there will be one in 2014.
This is the anniversary celebration of the Battle of Bannockburn and the intention is to send the message down to London and have them think again.
The ability to mobilse a massive vote in that year has not passed the SNP strategists by and the fact that their War Chest for the referendum has been swollen by a cool £1million by the gift from the Lottery winner means they alone of all the parties in Scotland can actually afford to fight a campaign to win ‘hearts and minds’ to the cause.
And that campaign will be won in the long game so far as they are concerned.
After all these years what does a couple more years matter!! if you get the result you want.
They, the SNP, dominate Holyrood and it should be remembered that all the rival parties are having to bed in new leaders in an atmosphere where they are being heard to say things but as yet not many are listening to them.
It should be noted where Salmond gave voice to his remarks, in the newly refurbished cultural icon of the National Museum of Scotland with the handy phrases on Museum banners displayed and ready for a clever politician to run away with them as if they were his own,
As long as the pro-Unionist parties sulk in their own tents and refuse to come out and engage with each other across party political divisions that they see as the most important thing to maintain while they wait for the Scottish people to come to their senses and reject the SNP and all its works, we are, as Pte Frazer in Dad’s Army would say, ‘we’re doomed’.
Salmond will also want to get the Local Elections over in May so he can look out a political landscape that he and his party totally dominate and then with the SNP looking like the ‘natural’ party of Government, a role lost forever by the Labour Party in Scotland now, and then set his course for the Referendum in his own time and way.
The Union could/would be lost by the simple fact of no-one being wiling make the first move for fear of losing face if they are not looked on as the ‘leader’ of the Unionist opposition.
Strange time ahead for these islands I fear.

I also just had a vision of a Glasgae full of 80 year old sprightly Celtic and Rangers fans all full of Buckle and singing. My it will be fun.

Will they have segregation in the nursing homes when they all live to be a 100?
