SF members and others distributing illegal PDF of ‘Voices from the Grave’

Sat 3 April 2010, 1:20am

SF have been vigorously rejecting claims made by Brendan Hughes in ‘Voices from the Grave’. It is hardly surprising that party members would not want to pay for the book and enrich Ed Moloney for what they insist are false, agenda driven claims. They should be left with the options of not reading the book, waiting for a library copy or trying to borrow one.

However, SF members (including one who works in their bookshop) are widely emailing a PDF copy of the book. The copy, which Slugger has seen, is not a scan. Where it originated from is not clear but it is certainly not a legitimate copy or being distributed legally.

Despite this I am also informed that a bookshop in West Belfast sold out it’s entire first order within hours.

A scene from my forthcoming novel based on the schooldays of a boy, provisionally called Mark:

“Please sir, Please sir! That’s not Murphy’s homework. He copied it from Donnelly. Yes, he did, sir. I saw them.”

Mark smiled slyly to himself behind his hand, knowing that his tale-telling would get both Murphy and Donnelly into trouble and make him look good in the teacher’s eyes. Who knows he might even get appointed prefect which would be compensation for the burning resentment at knowing that he would never be Head Boy as that post was one decided by the boys’ votes and Mark knew that neither he nor his policies would ever find favour with that electorate.

“Well,” reasoned Mark, “If I can’t win through popularity at least I can prosper as a sneak.”

    Well done Rory.

Do you think you’ve done enough to distract people from the blog I stand over with that rubbish? Or are you prepared to come in again later with more nonsense in the hope others will pick up your ignore the topic and slabber theme?

So you know. I’ve been offered- and neglected- this pdf copy by email from a source as far removed from Sinn Fein as is possible….and you know who you are….;>

    Chris,

I did note at the top ‘others’ are also distributing it, not just SF members. But it is entirely true only a SF member and a worker in their bookshop is brazen enough to publicly tout the copy around online.

Is this a new introductory offer for membership? Much as I’d like to read the book, I don’t think this is enough incentive to join.

    Mark,
You’re being so disingenuous with that reply to Rory. Your blog is so obviously an attempt to sow seed of distrust within S.F. You can’t be stupid enough (can you?) to not know that if you had made a similar comment a few years back, someone would have been left with very sore knees to say the least.

    Joe,

Oh, I see you think I’m saying SF members are reading this book in private, sending it to each other through hidden channels.

    That isn’t the claim.

SF loyalists are sending it out for free to each other and anyone that asks so Moloney doesn’t get the money. There isn’t a secret group in SF interested in reading the book with an open mind.

Jesus, its mad what people can read into things!

No Mark. What I am saying is that, if someone in SF who is secretly anti-Adams was giving out copies of such a book a few years ago in order to try to damage Adams’ reputation, and this person was identified, that person might end up being knee-capped. How many people work in the SF bookshop?

The person offering it out is doing it openly on another forum, so i’m hardly speaking out of turn.

Is this person on another forum the bookshop worker?
If so, fair enough. I didn’t know that. Isn’t it a sin to ignore copyright? Is this person giving it away or selling it?

    Joe,

I’ve been sent the relevant post from the other forum (thanks) – irishrepublican.net :

cara Moloney admits to heavily editing the Darks words, so now I have to ask myself whose story is this? Who do they think they are fooling, btw to all my comrades. . . I was mysteriously sent the PDF file if interested send me a pm or vm. I would not have read it any other way, I refuse to put one quid in Moloney’s pocket.

The author works in the SF bookshop afaik and does send the file when asked.

Great news, if true. I’d love to get a copy without paying.

Even though all the juicy bits seem to be in the public domain for free thanks to Ed and Anto’s demented hatred of the Gerry.

I love Slugger – particularly Mark’s skulking, amateurish, but more importantly, adolescent posts.

*whiney, nasal chav voice* “I love winding them all up so I do. It’s all a wind up and I’m lovin’ it ta fack”

It’s like a schoolkid smoking while teacher walks by, but hiding it at the crucial moment, I wonder has he stopped scratching his pimples yet.

No matter, he hasn’t stopped the intellectual wanking.

    His forehead must be sore.

I’m quite happy to give Mr Maloney my money and I am patiently awaiting my delivery from Amazon Books. This can be offset by the money I gave to Adams when I bought his books.

I wouldn’t want a pdf copy either as I like he touch and smell of a new book. This book sounds like it will be stinking because the content will show just how rotten to the core the subjects are.

Question: what’s the likelihood of Ed Moloney raking the big bucks in from intelligent readers with this latest book ? Pretty good, I’d say. Now with Gerry’s books which are in the creative fiction category, apart from the gullible daft Irish American sycophant readership who are living in the age of Parnell still, how much has Gerry made off intelligent buyers ? Not much, I’d wager.
Any guesses on the comparison moolah-wise ?
Hmmmmm……now Gerry’s books wouldn’t just happen to be subsidised big time by a certain SF-loving Irish American foundation with billions to burn ?
    Answer on a postcard, please.
