Security alerts in Londonderry and Belfast
As a BBC report notes, “Security alerts are continuing in Londonderry after the Real IRA said they left four devices in the city”. Earlier The Guardian described the city’s centre as “paralysed”. And there’s also a security alert in west Belfast after two masked men reportedly threatened a bus driver and left a suspicious object on board the vehicle. They’re just keeping faith with the republican past… Adds “Belfast city centre traffic deadlock gridlock”. And
Three trains laid on for rugby fans travelling to Dublin on Saturday have been cancelled due to an alert at Newry.

It’s clear from Pete’s post that incidents like this, like almost everything else, are SF’s fault.
Yet another attempt at British Dirty Tricks backfires on them.
The Brits are determined to create an internicine feud . In the past month they’ve delivered via the PSNI, a number of “death threats” to RNU members, PSF members, and 32CSM members.
ALL these death threats were subsequently denied publicly by those claimed to be responsible.
Gary Donnelly is not under threat by the RIRA,(the RIRA have made this quite clear) and he was moved to Magilligan in a dual strategy of criminalisation and an attempt to sow confusion amongst republicans.

14lbs in 7 days??? I’m gonna try it!
I might even be able to get those lime green speedos for going away to Magaluf in May!
Dec, PSF are in power,in coalition with the DUP, so I suppose they must share some responsibility.
At the very least they are guilty of complicity.
Here’s the ONLY statement they’ve released on the issue.
http://www.derryjournal.com/journal/Republican-anger-at-hunger-strike.6166341.jp
Thats it. Thye’re not angry at a guy getting assaulted, having his arm broke, then arrested by the assault party, wrongly jailed, and hit with the maximum sentence, then finally criminalised in jail for his beliefs.
No they’re angry at some graffiti.
Gary Donnelly is now back on the republican wing in Maghaberry.
Who is stirring it up inside, prison and outside and why is the major question? This is way beyond the prison authorities and the long finger of MI5 is visible in many places.
Is Donnelly an IRA member ? If not, why is he on the republican wing ?
It may be time to think creatively here and either enter into talks with the insurgents like in Afghansistan or come down very heavily on them.
But letting it rattle along below the surface is probably not a good idea.
Never heard ‘deadlock’ to describe traffic congestion before. Is it not gridlock?
I was lucky enough to miss it somehow.
But as I overheard – ‘What do they think this? The 70s with better haircuts’
CS,
I don’t think Donnelly has claimed to be anything other than a member of the 32CSM (a republican).
CS, I have no idea if Donnelly is an IRA man or not but he is a republican. There are more than one prisoner on that wing who are not IRA members and who are not affiliated to any group or even party.
The Derry Press Officer for PSF, was also told by the PSNI last week that he was under threat by the RIRA.
The same day the RIRA denied this and alleged British dirty tricks.
PSF, however went with the British version, and used the occasion to bash dissidents.
There is clearly an increase in psycholgical operations by the State designed to foment a feud.
The recent “leaked” letters referring to Meehan and Catney, and the whole Kieran Doherty and planting od drugs case being just 2 more examples.
Well Im sure all of us can agree on the fervent wish that those on the Republican Wing (???) in Magheraberry have plenty of company soon.
It occurs to me that if I were a republican dissident or otherwise. I might find the easiest culprit for any of my little ‘mistakes’ to be the Brits.
It does sound a lot like business as usual…
What now of Baggotts claim that Republicans are similar to street gangs in Brixton?
In a space of a few hours the two main cities have been paralysed.
Incidents in East Tyrone, Ballymena, Newry, Derry, Belfast…
this is politically and ideologicaly motivated, shows geographical spread and co-ordination, and seemed to catch the State off-guard.
Civilian guards at Derry’s main Police barracks were inept, and the cops inside can give thanks it was only a hoax.
Baggott was being deliberately provocative and underestimated his enemy. His advisors in Holywood are to blame however.
looks like the cop loving reals are involved in the big push, another six real suspects were apprehended in tyrone last night,
old school
The PSNI lives, eats and breaths inept, it is in the first line of the job description.
yeah yeah, its everybody’s fault but the poor wee ordinary decent criminals of the RIRA.
pippakin,
surely you are not suggesting that the police force beloved of Messrs McGuinness, Adams and co, and which they proudly call on us all to support, is inept?
Yes that brave Irish freedom fighter who stepped onto that treacherous bus with the dangerous crowd of pensioners truly deserves to walk to the dole office to collect his British pounds with his head held high
sdelaneys
Keystone Cops ring any bells? I think inept is probably the main qualification, closely followed by incompetent.

Whatever else republicans may hate about the English, they just luuuuve sterling!
To be fair Donzo is a big lad and could do with getting a bit of weight off. ‘Fat bloke’ is such a bad look for a revolutionary; that Joe McCann picture wouldn’t have been quite so iconic if there had been a big hairy gut hanging over his waistband.
PSF, however went with the British version, and used the occasion to bash dissidents.
What’s wrong with the “British version” ? Are you seriously trying to suggest that the RIRA don’t apply the death sentence to suspected informers ?

Sorry for interrupting your breathless regard for the brave freedom fighters, but it takes a couple of twats five minutes to phone in a bunch of bomb warnings. The state can’t ignore them, as the people phoning in the warnings have form when it comes to actually blowing up civilians. This is the same organization that likes to blame the state for the deaths of the people as a result of the bomb they themselves planted.
ha, the provos are reduced to ‘fat’ as counterattack. Can we go for speccy-four-eyes next?
Everyone who pokes fun at some self important Derry bellend is a Provo? Wise up.
BTW have you written to the BBC Trust about that massively oppressive failure to put the Galls game on live? Or maybe another 400 pound-er on Wood Lane would be a better response?
how about the real cop lovers mark, catchy
Interesting to see the Provo Cavalry out in force here, to attack a stitched up Republican and defend the British state.
And they dare to call the SDLP “Stoops”. Jesus wept.

Classic!.. I wish I had said that. I probably will
I am surprised that Mr McGregor has nothing to say about Ireland Rugby Supporters having their travel disrupted tonight and tomorrow.
Now if St Galls supporters had their Dublin journey disrupted…..sheesh Mr McGregor would be blogging all night.
the real are the new stoops old school.
Yeah thats why the cops are framing them Michael.
Meanwhile a Provo caught in south Armagh with an AK47 a few months ago is charged with “not having a proper gun certificate.”
Let me know when you’ve something interesting to say.
oldschool,
Surely thats the whole point.
The Provos are in government after all.
Yeah, I know Fitz, parity of esteem and all that.
I understand someone was forced to drive(in his van) what he was told/thought was a bomb today, i knew a guy that was made to do this (gentle type)back in the 80′s, last time i spoke to him 10 years back, he told me he had not worked since,He also appeared to me a shadow of the man i knew, But hey he probably deserved it for being?.
the real killed the same number of cops has the stoops, whats wrong with the stoop comparison.

OS will you listen to yourself? This type of childish crap achieved absolutely fuck all squared for the provos, unless you consider administering a Stormont assembly within the UK as somehow a victory. THAT campaign was carried on with a modicum of local support, a much larger & better organised group and with no firm consensus on continued partition or local power sharing govt.
These antics have been tried and failed miserably. If the CIRA / RIRA (whatever the fuck who cares) are aiming to piss off commuters, scare bus drivers and gift PSNI overtime, then they’re doing a top job. Any aims beyond that, they’re as useful as tits on a nun.
They need to go home, grow up and get a life.

I hate to say it but, however distastefully and reluctantly, I have to agree

That got me thinking about the parents of an ex-girlfriend of mine. In the 70s the Pervies came into their house with masks and guns and took the dad’s work van to use in either a bombing or shooting. They were so traumatised they’ve been unable to work since and both parents have enjoyed top rate invalidity payments from the British government ever since.
What do they do now you ask??? They are two of the most senior – behind the scenes – Sinn Fein workers in north Belfast. Funny that isn’t it??
british citizen
No not funny at all, but it does make you wonder does Ireland want, need, or deserve people like that, such Parasites are a British problem, let the Brits deal with them.

Sorry I definitely didn’t mean that! Should have made that clear in my post.
Apologies for any mistake.

Agreed.
I must say, the ‘traffic jams for Irish unity’ campaign isn’t doing much for me.
I’m quite unclear as to how making my journey home take longer is going to move Ireland one step closer towards unification, or achieve anything other than increasing the level of moaning I could legitimately do about my day at work.
Hasta la victoria siempre, comrades… sigh.
What you dont understand is if they can make enough people late for their dinner, Then a nation once again ireland will be.
read the agreement brit loving idiots
Michaelhenry – What part of it?
Lamhdearg – We’ve always been a nation. We just have not always had an independent Ireland.
pippakin — thanks for the vote of confidence above, though I think I merely stated the obvious.
I kind of doubt you’ll fully agree with the following, but I reckon it’s equally valid.
Taking an overview of recent threads, I really do wonder if the Irish in general merely have an insatiable appetite for masochism.
Having rid themselves of the Brits, the Republic proceeded to effectively put the Roman Catholic church in charge, backed up by a succession of govts too scared or lazy to challenge the obscene power of the clergy. The populace barely murmured as the likes of Haughey elevated corruption to entirely new levels and emigration continued unabated.
Meanwhile in the north, the Nationalist population apparently decided that the best way to get rid of those ghastly Unionists/Brits was to support a bunch of lads who killed more of their ‘own side’ than the enemy combined.
Subsequent revelations of what the catholic church had been getting up to with myriad Irish children has merely resulted in a dip in mass attendance and a few feeble requests for reform.
And now to put the icing on the cake we have a shiny new bunch of brave Irish soldiers ready to blow up shoppers, send kids into riot situations and generally cause mayhem in the name of well we’re not quite sure.
It might be nice to think that some societies would demand mass resignations and root and branch reform in a church guilty of such crimes against their own children. It would be pleasant to see the likes of the RIRA/CIRA being ostracised by their local communities and (in the case of the Omagh bombers) exiled for life. But don’t hold your breath. It’s a much fairer bet that the church will brazen it out, continue to demand respect and moralise to new heights of hypocrisy. While the brave lads of Ireland will murder more Irish citizens, blow up more Irish businesses and serve long jail terms, punctuated by endless whinging about being treated as the hopeless little criminals that they are.
It does kind of make you wonder what this brave new united Ireland will be about. Largely devoid of British and European subsidies, with the added bonus of half a million disgruntled prods, a similar number of republicans well versed in protest of all kinds and an unreformed church continuing to run the education system and set the moral standards, it’s quite possible that more southerners would jump ship than northern prods.
Gerry Lvs castro
I agreed with the country being handed to the Catholic church, I have said as much on a previous thread.
As for the rest. It takes time to settle in democratic change and there are inevitable hiccups. Each country has its share of corruption, we are no different. As for the north, some of todays would be revolutionaries undoubtedly hero worshiped the revolutionaries of previous years and are convinced they can do better…
History should, but never does teach us, and all we do is repeat the same horrendous mistakes of the past. Hopefully in todays world, where you cannot move far without being caught on camera, the failure of the revolutionaries, will not be as bitter as we move inexorably to a united Ireland, regardless of the actions of the few.
i hope pippakin you are not making the camera an excuse for the peeler loving real.
Michaelhenry
I am not making any excuses at all. I hate the bloody intrusive, tax collecting, things! But there is no doubt the cameras are there, especially in the UK. No one can move far without being caught in the state version of candid camera. So any young revolutionary better make sure he has his happy face on when he sets out to ‘revolutionize’.
CS, I have no idea if Donnelly is an IRA man or not but he is a republican. There are more than one prisoner on that wing who are not IRA members and who are not affiliated to any group or even party.
Why would someone want to be on the republican wing and hang out with a bunch of republicans if they had nothing to do with said organization themselves ?
Why would republicans, who presumably don’t regard themselves as common criminals, want to accomodate “ordinary decent” and completely unaffiliated convicts within “their” wing ?
