Orange celebrate the green

Wed 17 March 2010, 3:31am

Stoneyford’s Pride of the Village [sick] seem in full flow.

Cllr Brian Heading (SDLP) informs Slugger that celebrations in the village continued with their early start:

Apparently the band had its weekly practice event last night, a loop hole in the determination is the band walking into a field (Private Property); which is allegedly owned by H*****’s father. As it is private property they can parade until the cows come home. ..Might be a chance the band could pull a fast one and not parade at all tomorrow night leaving a lot of police resources tied up.

Also, six are apparently “bound over” from previous indiscretions and may not want to chance it.

I spoke to a few members of the orange lodge today and they are not happy with the band or its past behaviour. If the determination is ignored by moving on to private property it will be the two fingered salute to the commission, the police and those hoping to build on good community relations.

This is a step (forgive the pun) in the right direction, I am sure that the OO can find a field for every band and lodge and they can march up and down it all day every day and leave the rest of us free to go about our daily business

If the Orange can celebrate the Green in this way…..then surely the Green should celebrate the Orange.
As these morons in Stoneyford are doing absolutely no service to the “loyalist” cause they tell us they are supporting……they are the mirror image of the moron dissidents who tell us they are “Republican”. Republican dissidents are of course no use to Man or Beast.

I therefore suggest that Republican dissidents take themselves off to a field (obviously it does not need to be a big field). They can stay there for days celebrating Orange culture.
Perhaps Carrie Twomey could write a poem.
    That should clear the field.

    FJH,

You seem a little fixated. Any chance of talking about the topic?

Mick will end up baring your tedious arse eventually if you keep that inane guff up.

Well Mr McGregor that would be Mr Fealltys choice I dare say.
But actually I dont think Im as fixated on Ms Twomey as you are. You brought her to our attention….twice.
And actually I think you will find that my post was on topic.
    To clarify.
I was making a direct comparison between the stupidity and isolation of loyalist band in Stoneyford and their mirror image in the Republican community.
I think thats a legitimate point.
As your own headline and post seemed to ridicule these loyalists, you can hardly get all precious about me ridiculing republican dissidents.
Unless of course you feel that republican dissidents are not worthy of ridicule and derision…..I suspect that my views are shared by many in the real world beyond dissident websites.
    Dont you think so too?

Hey, they’ve set a precedent. Marching around in a field to put one over on the Taigs, who are preparing for celebrations of a much more progressive and substantial variety tomorrow.

Never mind the men in black flak jackets coming to the aid of the people in Stoneyfort, maybe the men in white coats would be more appropriate.

Proof, if proof were needed, of a culture disappearing up its own backside.

Hope they enjoyed it, and all that polishing shoes and ironing shirts, they’ll need Persil non-bio and maybe a touch of Vanish in the morning to get those stains out before they pick up their pens to sign on the following day.

Still, credit them with giving the rest of us open goals in our determination to label their shenanigans the outworkings of diseased minds in flight from any concept of reality.

    Hope they enjoyed their walk.

Just had another thought. Those throwing their lot behind the leader not named in this post… if it all goes south (and I don’t mean the rest of the country beyond this beloved province, and I’m not saying what ‘it’ is) – will that mean they’ll be – at best – a busted flush, at worse… oh, dear, what an appalling vista, for them.

Maybe they can all go live in the field, for protection. Well, it would be repartition, of a sort.

It really doesn’t get much lower than this. Really, it doesn’t.

    Key question;

How can Brian Heading be a SDLP councillor as well as ‘head of democracy’ (thats his actual title) at Queens.

From what I hear the students there aren’t really sure what he does anyway apart from run the student elections… but Dominic Doherty does most of the work for them anyway.

Hmmms. Care to give us your job description Brian? Seriously though.

    Brilliant.

The poems in themselves are funny in that they could have been written by a satirist – oh, for Ireland to have a Craig Brown.

Is Heading “still” at Queens? Jesus I left in ’91 he’d already been there for seemingly at least 20 years. I never met anyone who knew what it was he did or what course he was on. But he’d always be there, battered folder in one hand, Irish News in other with that faintly pious look on his bake.

    I see little has changed….

    Oh Mr Maybe, Justin Case,
Its one thing to criticise a mans politics.
But anonymously attacking how he earns his daily bread is a bit low.
Lets face it the majority of students at QUB are not exactly familiar with the concept of “work”

I agree FJH, and as for PJ Maybe’s comment, I was at Queens at roughly the same time, Brian did a Politics Degree and then got a job working for Queens. I’m back at teaching at ‘school’ so will you make a smart arse comment implying that I’m still a student?

I think your comment is more motivated by snobbery that a working class man could go to Queens as a mature student and get himself a job there when he finished.

St patricfk is the patrol saint of Nigeria. He imported an alien ideology into Ireland. The practice of drowning the shamrock is a British Army invention. Parading began in New York in protest against Hibernophobia. Ditto in Austrlaia where the St Andrew’s Greek marches are now much bigger.
Green, in other words, cannot be equated to Orange fascism.

So Brian finally got his degree? Glad to hear it. Myself and O’Shaughnessy were sipping absinthe (like consumptive poets) reminiscing about the good old old days at QUBSU. It’s good to see at least one of our (many) old sparing partners doing so well.

Brian was always a good sport. Unlike some (or rather “most of”) the miserablists we encountered.

  27. The reality of the Orange Order is that it is a counter-revolutionary institution set up and maintained to target not just Catholics but also ‘disloyal’ .
