Joking apart, its all a bit sordid for a simple “name clearing” exercise. Many of the damaging revelations are already accepted as fact by the Robinsons. And are people really that interested in whether Peter acted properly? The toyboy, the attempted suicide, the money, asking for it back. Peter appearing to hang Iris out to dry. There may be more allegations to come, but I think he´s a lame duck already.
BBC reporting that Robinson has asked for a senior Counsel to be appointed to investigate whether he did anything wrong. Will await the result before making any other decision.

I think he should stand aside temporarily.

Are you another disgruntled ex member of PSF, Paul, or have you another axe to grind? That is, apart from your noble ideals which have obviously been offended.
MSG 3 Bavarian.
I have just watched robinsons two interviews with BBC NI and before that, UTV, and what a let off Robinson got from messrs Reid and Devenport, alleged hard hitting political hacks.
Both asked PR to explain the bizarre night and morning after the alleged suicide attempt, and pressed him on the way he went to work in the morning as if nothing had happened. [My explanation; nothing did happen]
After PR explained that he had stayed up since after 1.00 am, when said death bid supposed to occur, incredibly, neither hack even mention the curiously jolly mood PR appeared in Stormont chamber only hours after such an event. Not a word about it. How can this happen in a democracy, [oops, i was forgetting. NI isn't anything like a democracy].
The cosy rapport between the media here and the people who are in power is totally out of order and an insult to voters and Journalism, frankly.
Well done, socaire. It’s a pity there aren’t a few more like you in SF. I can see you are a real strategic thinker. However, if I were you, I would be much more worried about the disgruntled people still in SF, the ones who don’t like the fact that Bishop Gerry just moved an alleged paedophile to another diocese.
Just been told that an ASU down in crossmaglen have removed the PAUL QUINN poster (the young man murdered by gangsters)SF have always said there was no republican involvement(some would say they protested their innocence too much)Anyway I agree with SF that there should be no hierarchy of victims so I hope the local SF reps will call on the people who caried this out to stop . Rieff has recently written a book titled, Against Remembrance (published in Ireland by Liffey [...] read our review »
Unionists, Loyalists, and Conflict Transformation in Northern Ireland is a new academic tome by lecturer and researcher Lee Smithey. In the book the Pennsylvania academic outlines his findings based on 67 interviews over eighteen months with grassroots activists in unionist and loyalist communities and organisations. This is largely a book about men, even though they [...] read our review »
Short answer: very little, other than he enjoyed the environs of Hillsborough Castle, enjoyed working with the local politicians, and has Gerry Adams to thank for Bobby his dog. Peter Mandelson’s book The Third Man has captured media headlines in recent weeks as the Times serialised the most juicy bits. But what did he have [...] read our review »
