Senior political hacks have been summoned to Dundela…
For what, they’ve been called to the DUP party headquarters in East Belfast, we do not know… But I suspect we’re going to find out soon…
Update: None of the Belfast print media have been invited. And the press office is disclaiming any knowledge that anything is happening there. But we understand that the BBC are parked outside the building.

It looks like a case of ‘resigning to spend more time with his family’ then. Which might be literal or figurative – depending on what is in the Spotlight program and who has ‘leaked’ it and for what expedient purpose (unless NI’s media has suddenly developed a missing investigative reporting bent).
If there was a discrepancy between an expenses claim and the actual location of an MP or MLA at the time presumably that would be a matter of public interest.
on the edge of my seat here….
This is the big test of Slugger’s new server/config. If it stays up this afternoon, it’ll cope with anything!

Recording an interview for Spotlight perhaps?
Indeed Alan. None of the print media are there. BBC outside the building. Looking like a TV gig.
Classic, what we have witnessed is journos doing what they do best, speculating.
Any chance of naming a few sources, not a chance.
Exit Peter……
I’d love to print what I’m hearing. Every rumour of the past ten years coming out this afternoon…
Someone’s really turning the knife in someone else. Ahem.
I think all the speculation well myself I am doubled up with laughter reading some of the comments.all interesting stuff though.lol lol
true Steve, but when you create a mystery and a void of information then speculation will try to fill that gap.
Quite a few of us have heard various rumours, doing the rounds for a few months now…
Presumably that means that our dear leader has finished taking care of family business.
On that subject, Robinson was unable to make an initial statement on the death of the cardinal because he was unavailable. Now any other country where I lived would announce a stand-in to take care of emergent issues while the PM was on vacation or otherwise unavailable. Does that not happen in N.I.?
Typical journalism, fire off concerns about sub rosa talk yet such journos conceal their own sources for the “greater common good” i.e. news worthiness for the masses that “need to know”.
Yet when politicians cite privacy for the greater public good they get pilloried and why? Well because they are “public” figures and good for it – fair game.
Please tell what are these rumours? Completely in the dark here lol.

join the club Garza lol lol
Might be a good tactic – let the speculation mount and the juicy rumours fly and then the actual announcement might actually be a disappointment in comparison, a damp squib.
Graza/Paul: Following Blair’s lead and switching to Catholicism.
Garza, I posted yesterday that an acquaintance in N.I. I had just spoken to on the phone said that it was being rumoured that Robinson would resign before the end of the week. No other commenter picked up on it.
A domestic issue between Mr and Mrs R methinks!
You mean moving from Whitewell to People’s Church! That would be quite a split.
Eamonn Mallie claims the media gathering was at the Robinson home – chez lui.
I heard the scoop is he’s gay and in love with a Peruvian goat farmer.
“Peter Robinson to live and fight another day. Personal problems need utmost care and attention. That is the message. More to come”

Alan in Belfast – You mean moving from Whitewell to People’s Church! That would be quite a split.
A little more serious than that Alan…
I’m most decidedly not sharing the gossip I am hearing because as I said before, none of it is fit to print.
There has also been a fair amount of ancillary political spin around this story. About which more when this
I think we will have to hear what the man says after 6pm tonight.

Thanks joe I enjoy your posts even thoough we disagree you are a good man and can bring a bit of humour which is great thank you.
I don’t actually believe that Peter sang the backing vocals for Willie on his now controversial track: http://url.ie/4l4z
Nobody has replied to my query as to who has been in charge of the government since Robinson became unavailable. Does that mean that nobody knows or that no one was in charge?
joecanuck, a government only needs someone in charge if it is doing something.
Eamonn Mallie is properly teasing us now:
“This is going to be a long night. There will be many twists and turns in the Robinson saga.”
If Peter goes-will we have jumped or will he have been pushed into oblivion.. by the wife?
@joecanuck – the deputy first minister with support from the bann river rescue.
she knocked his melt in and he is running around with 2 black eyes
I heard the scoop is he’s gay and in love with a Peruvian goat farmer.
I believe Iris knows of a psychiatrist who can ‘cure’ that. Pity he can’t fix depression as well wha?
Re my query about who was/is in charge, it’s being discussed in Eamonn Mallie’s thread, “How can Shaun Woodward speak of possible success being just around the corner?”
Holy fuck!!
One story in the public domaim
http://www.politics.ie/northern-ireland/121731-iris-robinson-having-affair-behind-husband-peters-back-story-about-break.html
Holy shit!
amazing if the affair was with a woman paulmc !
And it was with Liam Adams…
Percy,
would be outstanding. But snowball’s chance in hell.
Garza,
I was hoping someone would bring religion into the conversation. What is God’s position on extramarital sex by the way? It’s ok if you’re sufficiently homophobic?
If true this underlines the fact that she’s pure poison IMO. Another Christian with opinions on other people’s sex lives and the morals of a cat.
If that is true then it puts her depression confession and her supposed Christian values in a different perspective.
I suppose its happened before.
Ted Haggard an American pastor that ranted against homosexuality was caught on drugs pleasuring a male prostitute. Hes now a door to door salesman.
Oh the irony if the other party is a female.
Cant see how Robbo would resign over this though, Iris’s career is over however.
£400 a month expenses…was she doing a lot of eating out?
