Paramilitary Funeral – Machynlleth style

Sun 13 September 2009, 10:56am

Glyn Rowlands of Corris, Machynlleth was buried last week. An ex member of the Free Wales Army, Mr Rowlands was one of the few FWA men to be prosecuted back in the day.
Here’s Glyn ap Gruffudd’s tribute. Photos of the funeral parade by Sian Ifan (c) here and here. Thanks to Daithi

So will it end for PIRA – old men arguing the past and a lost cause over a pint while the rest of the world gets on with its life. Then a rag tag and bobtail funeral parade without even the pomp or finesse of the OO (!).

Mind you we do do a better line in headstones over here.

Isnt it interesting that they publish it all in English because the avid patriots dont speak Welsh. Must be all those years of oppression dont you know.

What?….. an annual geriatric display, flat feet abound, and young juveniles dressed in Thunderbird outfits! Yeah….classsy stuff Igor!

Farewell to a patriot who loved his country, rather than someone else’s country.

Yea, let’s free Wales, a suburb of England with by far the worst, cringe-making accent of all the regions.
Better if we just locked it up and threw away the key.

Was that post your entry for most bigoted of the month underwood?

Go wiki England. Then Wales. Then suburb.

Cringe-making accent? You should get out more, Wolverhampton would be good.

Diolch Dewi, go raibh maith agat.

(By the way, the submit word I have to enter is ‘nation’. I’m sure Glyndwr, Rowlands et al. would approve.)

Hi Dewi. Enjoying your blog entries.

Would definitely be interested to see you blog on the following topics:

    - Welsh republicanism (Free Wales Army etc)
    - Welsh independence movement (moderates, extremists (if any))
    - Welsh language. Where are the Welsh ‘gaeltachtaí’ located?

“To be seated with our Prince Owain in the Cave of Heroes, a cave which our folk tales tell us opens once a year at mid summer to allow the heroes of old, to ride fourth in their great ‘Cylch Cymru’, join them Glyn and ride fourth Glyn! ride fourth! ride fourth!””

Reactionary obscurantism mixed with romantic nationalism – a match made in hell.

    Dewi,
Was this the crowd that I seem to remember tried to “liberate” Hereford as a stunt since it had once been in Wales. Then someone in their group remembered that the SAS were based in Hereford and they all went home instead.

Incidentally nice pictures of Machynlleth: it has some excellent second hand book shops. Corris is nice too (though very small).

You are wrong Turgon; and if I may cheek you, in a typically dryballs ulsterproddy way.

They actually went to the pub.
