  1. Brian Walker says:

An even thinner field now, reflecting the reduced status of the job? Jium Gamble can talk the talk but hardly has the breadth of command. No big metropolitan chief left or Met assistant commissioner. You’ll be backing the senior runner, the man from Leicestershire, Pete.

I hadn’t really thought about it, Brian.

Gamble’s the only one not a current Chief Constable, so he probably has an uphill battle.

Maybe the scientific Paul West ;o)

Although Stoddart might be in with a shout.

We need a progressive (in policing terms) C.C.

No mucking about with political orders from admirers of Vanguard leader types.

Policing is for everyone, no favourites.

    @Pancho’s Horse

Well who are you going to call when your car gets nicked? Eirigi? Last time I checked insurance companies don’t accept reports written by community activists/legitimate businessmen.

Or would there be no crime in a united Ireland? The feral youth of Belfast would just sit around in arran jumpers looking into the mid distance to the strains of Clannad, a Celtic renaissance in full swing now that the people of Erin are free from the ignominy of being occasionally breathalised around Christmas by the Crown forces.

“Policing is for everyone, no favourites.”

It probably says that in a PSNI press release, AN, but London and Dublin will still have their loyalist and republican paramilitary ‘favourites’. These favourites appear to be more or less immune from the application of the justice system and will possibly find their roles ‘enhanced’ as additional police stations are closed.

  13. Bruno Spiro says:

I am reminded about a previous CC candidate who withdrew from the process citing his unwillingness to be the “type” of CC that was being looked for.

PSNI CC is the most politically polluted CC post in the UK and the limited candidate pool reflects the attitudes amongst qualifying police officers that the role is one to stay away from.

In a similar way to the corrupt relationship that has existed between the Mafia and police departments in various jurisdictions the PSNI is expected to go softly-softly on certain criminality, not for bungs as in the case of the Mafia but in order that the ‘peace process’ continues on its merry way.

It is surely not a surprise that many professional police officers shy away from involvement in such a situation.

  14. Seimi says:

Given the fixation with all things religous in these wee six counties, shouldn’t the new CC at least reflect that in some way? I think yer man James Anderton should be brought in. He spoke to God didn’t he? He should fit right in. Half the politicians here think they ARE God, so that should make things easy, for him and for them.

Though, when I think about it, maybe Chief Clancy Wiggum would perhaps be a better choice…

Less favorites and more… groups mistakenly deemed necessary evils.

I suspect that there is too much dirty laundry gone unaired all the way around.

But abu nicola isn’t wrong — the hoods need to be treated like hoods and the politicians be damned… which is the reason the next CC isn’t going to be a strong figure — just another politically pliant seat-warmer

  19. Pancho's Horse says:

When the Wehrmacht occupied France, who did you report crime to? Did the brave Maquis while away their time accordeon playing in their stripey jumpers wondering who would be next in line for Gauleiter? These people have no moral right to govern us – to push their pro queer and pro abortion laws down our throats.

Well acutually they do of course. We voted for a constitutional settlement and under this they ahve all the legal amd moral authority they need.

That, cynic, smells like a non sequitur. I repeat. No moral or legal right – no more than France in Algeria or Portugal in Africa. By the way, on holidays my companion fell into conversation with an 8 year old girl who explained that she was living in the Emirates and had an English teacher from Ireland. When asked from what part did the teacher hail, she said “I think the part where there are still some English left” A gem!!!

    Pancho

The “Wehrmacht” ha, ha. The anlaogy might have some logic if:-

the 6 counties hadnt been British for hundreds of years.

there wasnt a British majority in the 6 counties

Britain was a fascist totalitarian dictatorship rather than a liberal democracy where Sinn Fein at all are permitted to participate in elections and government.

My solution is for England to remove her grubby paws from other people’s countries. Pull out and say live together or die together. And Brit, if I steal from someone – be it 6secs, 6 mins, 6 days or 600 years the crime doesn’t lessen. As a matter of fact, it worsens. There are estates in Dungannon with a Polish majority so is UDI an option for them.
