Dissident paranoia, and some neo-Nazi bedfellows…

Mon 6 April 2009, 4:59am

REPUBLICAN Sinn Fein recently issued a press release warning that the “British Colonial police have hijacked the website of the Thomas Harte Cumann in Lurgan” who are “using it to gather information on visitors to the site who leave contact details etc.” Judging by the amount of recent activity on their guestbook, I don’t think they’ve too much to worry about. And another RSF statement detailed how spokesman Des Dalton addressed a conference in Italy hosted by a “local group of young political activists called ARIES Officina Nazional Popolare”. My knowledge of Italian micro-groups is a bit rusty but, according to a comment on Indymedia (now deleted, but conveniently cached here), ARIES is “linked to Le Destra (The Right) who are themselves linked to the European National Front“. And an Italian communist here (sympathetic to republicanism) described Dalton as collaborating with Italian fascists. So perhaps it’s no surprise to discover that the Real IRA and 32CSM are attracting support from far-right groups like the race-hate extremists in National Alliance. They’ve distributed a mail drop containing, according to Niall O’Dowd, “a plea to stop America turning into a Third World slum of “non-Whites,” and a leaflet calling on me to support the Real IRA and the 32 County Sovereignty Movement”. It’s not the first time Slugger has touched on the odd associates of Ireland’s ultras.

  1. Not surprising. Extreme nationalism is extreme nationalism. No wonder Sean Russell got on well with the Nazis.

Italian Fascisti are not and never have been neo-Nazis. Mussolini had to make a decision and unwisely, given what we know now, chose the German side, but it was just as feasible that he would have ended up on the British side, or like Franco, cunningly neutral.

A major exponent of the Italian/British friendship movement was Evelyn Waugh, a friend of Randolph Churchill, whom the Daily Mail hired to supply pro Italian reportage of the Ethiopian invasion.

But yes there are some strange associations out there. A successful political movement is often made out of complete opposites: the American Democratic party at one time contained the country’s left wing, as well as the segregationists of the South.

It has previously been remarked that certain Loyalist organisations dsiplay sympathy for Israel at the same time as having among their foreign allies, certain outfits that admire the Nazis.

As of course did Lord Rothermere and the Daily Mail, until they unfortunately ended up on the wrong side.

I’m no 32CSM supporter, but does anyone really think the above is anything other than a black op/smear tactic? I “LOL’d” the first time I read it.
