More concerns about Education and Skills Authority

Mon 16 March 2009, 9:16pm

The UUP’s Basil McCrea and Cardinal Sean Brady have both expressed concern about the proposed Education and Skills Authority – and Will Crawley has more from Cardinal Brady on the importance of Catholic schools. Today on Stormont Live it was DUP MLA Mervyn Storey’s turn. He’ll be chairing the Northern Ireland Assembly’s Education Committee when Cardinal Brady appears in front of them on Wednesday.

    A Cardinal appearing before a committee at Stormont.
    How things have changed in a lifetime.
    40 years ago the laity would have been grovelling on their knees kissing the ring on his outstretched hand.
    What is the correct form of address–Your Eminence, Lord Archbishop?
    A Prince of the Church being questioned.
    It really is remarkable, overturning Centuries of authoritarian rule.
    The symbolism of a Free Presbyterian chairman having a dialogue on an equal basis is mind blowing.
    How are the Mighty fallen!

  2. Latin prelates in Ireland are addressed as: (a)Your Eminence for a Cardinal. (b)Your Grace for an Archbishop. (c)Your Lordship (/My Lord) for a Bishop.

    What abou just calling them by their first name?

    Or are their “Christian Names” not good enough?

    @Pigeon Toes

    Your suggestion seemed to dominate choices for the correct form of address.
    No Seans but plenty of Donal,Patrick and John. The only female, Sister Eithne Woulfe of the Order of St Louis was addressed as simply “Sister”
    The affair was entirely too choreographed.
