Solar eclipse – lunar view
I’ve previously noted the Japanese lunar probe Selene/Kaguya’s HD footage of an Earthrise from lunar orbit, but here’s some equally stunning footage of a solar eclipse by the Earth – as viewed from lunar orbit. Nasa press release and original Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) notice. Original footage here. The view is unveiled as the probe emerges from behind the Moon, as illustrated below the fold. Adds Archived links don’t seem to be working for the Earthrise footage, try this instead.

And how the Moon obscures the view

Pete – the earth-rise link doesn’t seem to be working. ANYhoooo…thanks for the above – keep posting ‘em – some of us keep reading ‘em.
And enjoying ‘em.
By the way…*clears throat, checks to see no one else is looking*…have just indulged in a small purchase – a Celestron Powerseeker. Entry level stuff, but sure…ad astra!

Link works here.
But thanks, and congrats on the Celestron purchase.
“this video has been removed due to terms of use violation” ??
Never mind – I remember them first time round!

I’ve added a new link to the footage that should work.
