“His only crime was to associate with known republicans.”

Fri 23 January 2009, 2:57pm

Last night before beginning the meeting the Republican Forum for Unity gave Marion Price a platform to update those there on the situation of Terry McCafferty.

Flier from the meeting below the fold.

This is a serious issue. Here is a man who has finished his sentence but is now back in prison for what can only be described as the offence of living in a country where he is liable to meet with people whom our ‘government’ does not like.
The silence on this case from those who claim the ‘republican’mantle is startling, in particular Sinn Fein’s silence.
    Terry McCafferty is being interned.
Other men in Maghaberry are waiting trial for more than 2 years, another form of internment.
Strip searches are common in Maghaberry. Is all this part of this wonderful new society we are supposed to be in?
Those who sit in Stormont must shoulder some of the blame for this.

“Here is a man who has finished his sentence”

…. no he hadn’t. He was released on a conditional licence and they seem to think he broke the terms of his licence so he was put back inside, we assume to prevent further offences and protect the public.

Wonderful name too. The “Republican Forum for Unity”. Is the sub title ” We’re not the splitters the Shinners are”?

Hilarious – scum-bucket released on licence and then returned for alleged breach of licence – so fucking what? This McCafferty clown has any amount of legal challenges at his disposal if he feels that the revocation of his licence is in some way unlawful or mis-conceived. If the basis for his revocation was as groundless as that outlined by this Price bint then the High Court would have released him without delay. An utterly pointless piece of whingeing, whining guff delivered by the usual collection of ne’er do well trash.

Any chance of more information on thi Kathleen. Either he “served the full length of his sentence” as the flyer says without given any further information, or he was “He was released on a conditional licence” as cycmic claims equally without given further information. Somebody is clearly talking out their arse here. From a quick google it would appear that this somebody is Marion Price but thats not completely clear.
Apparently he “was returned to Maghaberry gaol last night just four weeks after being released having served half of a 12 year sentence for his part in Republican activity in Belfast.” Now does that mean he was a good boy and got full remission or what? Elsewhere it says he WAS out on licence.

If he had served his sentence then I have to agree with dunreavynomore. If he was out on licence and broke the terms then they should dry their eyes and shut the fuck up – pack of RIRA anachronistic whingers!

Can someone explain what this group intends to achieve? I can understand them banding together and trying to lookout for the “political prisoners” of their respective military wings. Causes like that. But they don’t have a hope of achieving a united Ireland. They don’t contest elections, for starters. It seems so futile.

I’m not sure who’s more deluded. The Republic Forum for Unity or Republican Sinn Féin. Those..er..purists who won’t lower themselves to participate in “broad fronts”.

“these laws are being passed unnoticed”

errr…..no they are not. I presume that the members of this group only converse in Irish so they may have failed to notice the vehement campaign against some of these powers in the UK Parliament, the resignation of David Davies to force a by election on what he saw as an erosion of liberties and the fact that the Government only won the vote by a whisker – with DUP votes.

So far from slipping the laws in unnoticed, there was a full vibrant democratic process – something this lot are clearly unfamiliar with. Or perhaps they were asleep at the time.

Never mind. If they want change in these laws at the next election they can always vote Conservative!

The remission comes with clear conditions. So, no he didn’t. He was still serving his time, just outside of jail.

Don’t tell that to Comrade Stalin , dunreavymore-the boul’ Alliance keyboard warriors of Belfast North have dispensed with natural justice in the unseemly haste to justify internment.

I don’t live in Belfast. But no, it’s not internment, he pleaded guilty to the charge in question and he was, and is, still serving his time. This will all have been explained to him when he agreed to the release scheme and I’m sure it’s well understood by most of his apologists here, including Marion Price. [edited]

this was applied consistently rather than arbitrarily, half of the members of Sinn Fein would be arrested for associating with the other half.

Some proscribed organizations are more equal than others. The government has the additional concept of organizations which are “specified”. That’s not a situation that is terribly satisfactory, but I do feel a bit ridiculous debating that point with a bunch of people who are trying to suggest that a man who attempted mass murder somehow deserves to have the rules overlooked. By right he should have been locked up for the rest of his life.

Comrade pointing out the quotations and asking if I’d overlooked them,or forgotten them, and posing it as a question rather than going off on a rant, and attacking someone personally from behind your anon wall…. thats pretty cowardly. No one is infallible. We all make mistakes. You could have queried first before attacking someone by assuming all sorts of things without asking them first. Play ball. If you have more queries – ask, if you have a complaint take it to mick… o wait you might have to put your name to it and that would involve a little courage wouldn’t it?
