Drum roll for Mitch Mitchell
Mitch Mitchell, drummer in the Jimi Hendrix Experience, has died. – “rock mortality” noted here – greatest drummer ever? Neil McCormick has a good post on his passing. Below the fold is a clip which, I think, is a measure of the esteem in which he was held. But here’s the better known Mitch Mitchell.

Im sure Jimmy’s gonna meet him at the pearlys with a bottle of his fav. RIP.
“greatest drummer ever?”
No doubting he was immense but Ginger Baker gets my shout !
Pete,
My wife just told me to turn it down, that hasn’t happened in years.
Thanks
Thanks Pete – great to hear Hendrix….almost as good a guitarist as me…
But Clapton on the second clip a shade better than me…..
Except, it’s about the drumming, Dewi.
Oh chill mun Pete….drummers not important…when I was in a band and lacked a drummer we put up a notice in college:
“Drummer required : no talent needed: Any shit with a kit”
And it’s better it they are deaf.
‘drummers not important’
Dewi, I suggest you watch Ginger Bakers drum solo on Toad. Theres a 10 min version you can get on youtube I think. I won’t post it here, not appropriate. But check it out.
A 10 minute drum solo?….RS that’s 9 minutes 58 secs too long – they are just supposed to keep the beat mun…Apologies if I’ve lowered the tone on a thread of remembrance.
Heard about this on the Today programme, very sad news, he seemed like such a nice guy in interviews & it goes with out saying that he was a great drummer too.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience were the first band I really got into, now they are all deceased – shame the same thing couldn’t happen to U2 or Coldplay, BOOM, BOOM!
RIP Mitch.
happy trails mitch, you were the glue that held the Jimi H Experience together.
Confined to rock and excluding Jazz, I’d agree with Republican Stone at post one, Ginger had that something extra, wasn’t he the first one to use two bass drums.
shit i’m feelin old…scuse while I kiss the sky
Mark ditto with my wife ;-}
