“That’s an issue that the city treasurer is currently working on..”

Thu 6 November 2008, 10:39pm

In addition to the £46million dual carriageway, over £19million has been spent on securing an unrestricted airport licence for the City of Derry Airport, with £4-5million coming from Derry City Council. The rest was part of the funding offer from the UK and Irish governments – and then there’s the secret deal with Ryanair.. From the Derry Journal report

Deputy Town Clerk John Meehan said the costs are likely to be reflected in next year’s rates estimates but added it is too early to tell how much they will add to the rates bill locally. “That is what the City Treasurer is now working on. We have just begun the rates estimates period. There will be significant challenges on the capital front but it will be up to members to decide that,” he said.

And where are those members councillors? Of course they’d still have to collect those rates.. a process that hasn’t been very successful recently.. Derry City Council could write that debt off.. ["literally taking food out of children's mouths"? - Ed]. Or sell-off the airport..

Still don’t understand why this airport is in public hands.

Still don’t understand why Derry needs an airport when the capital and subsidy money spent on it could fund a frequent rapid rail link to Aldergrove.

This is economic maddness and all of the politicians know it I reckon. Derry needs an airports less than Omagh or Newry. It’s only a few mile from Aldergrove.

Derry is a bad place to invest because of the high rates attached to this White Elephant. Why would any invester be prepared to pay for this?

The sooner the new Council officials tell the Cllrs what they don’t want to hear the better.

Sell this place to the private sector and let’s start to try and get Derry back on it feet.

Jobless rates today bolted to an eye-popping 6.5 percent. This tells of many things but 2 things in particular – 1) Businesses both large and small are struggling and 2) after we reach the bottom of this recession, there will be many positions to be filled by companies, large and small.

Listen to the tone of airwaves, minus the recent election of President-elect Obama, everything has been so negative! Honestly, think about how negatively our society portrays almost every situation. Acquiring a negative perspective is easy, but stand up and make a statement about yourself – tell yourself you will not victim to this negative jargon! If you find yourself in a hole, ask yourself this question: what will more likely improve your chances of being successful – continuing with a negative outlook or transforming your thought patterns into a positive outlook?

I work with many high level c-level executives that have experienced tremendous success in their life. The one binding characteristic between all of them is that they do not let external, uncontrollable factors influence their inner dialogue and visions for future success. In fact, many of these people use a vision board – a collage of images that symbolize personal goals success – to help them keep focused on their positivity and desired outcomes. I might suggest using one yourself if you are currently in a rut. You should look at the helpful information on how to make one over at http://www.TheVisionBoardKit.com.
