Not quite what it seems…

Fri 15 February 2008, 9:21pm

Speaking of Cavan and Monaghan, here’s a strange one. The Belfast Media Group has a one page advert in the latest edition of the Irish Media Journal. The circulation figures may be a year old, but they were still at roughly the same level in the last ABC tally. But, as one Slugger reader points out, the inclusion of the Monaghan Echo in the footer is odd, not least since it ceased publishing in December.

It’s nowhere near as f*cking strange, aggravating and idiotic as the plethora of ads on Slugger these days that start start making a $%^&ing;noise without my £$*&ing;say so.

  5. Hold the front page Mick. God that’s a stunning revelation. It seems clear to me that you have uncovered, super sleuth that you are, yet another dastardly plot by the Belfast Media Group to pull the wool over the eyes of media professionals. After all how else could you account for the inclusion of an ad in a journal read by media professionals which brings this anomaly to public attention?

Or is it merely a case of an old ad being provided by the BMG to the journal?

Hang around till next year, by which time Lá Nua will have exited stage left barring any unexpected offers of assistance from Foras na Gaeilge officials firmly sitting on their hands, and you can check out the ad for any strange inclusions then….

For those annoyed by internet ads, I recommend Firefox + the Adblock extension.

It makes the web a pleasant experience again.

It’s not the ads that are playing ken, it’s the motion box videos. We may have to knock those on the head, I’m not sure that adblock would take care of that…

We’ll have to disagree on whether flashy blinky moving ads are annoying or not, but in that case you’ll also want to pick up flashblock as well…

Mick, I can’t find any reference to the Irish Media Journal which you mention. Could it be the Irish Marketing Journal?
