“And you believe it?”

Fri 30 November 2007, 5:17pm

Jeremy Paxman’s interview with the Northern Ireland Secretary of State, Shaun Woodward, wasn’t part of the clips put online from the Newsnight report but, as with the Prime Time report, it’s worth noting.

  1. Thanks for the tip: well worth the YouTube excursion.

I can see why this bit was excised from the item: it says nothing new, and Newsnight is increasingly in pursuit of the instant and sensational. Woodward stuck by his line: he escaped without being paxoed. He couldn’t do more (or less) in the circumstances.

But who sticks the scaffolding pole up Donaldson’s arse before he adopts that pained position for interview? Surely, it’s time some smooth PR-type gave him a few hints.

The performance by Woodward proves why a justice campaign is needed. It’s clear that the governments are doing everything in their power to ignore what happened and who was involved. Hopefully the groundswell of support for the campaign that is forming will make them think again.

I thought it was a good interview. First I’ve seen it, and Paxman did ask some very pertinent questions though they didn’t get answered. This murder reeks of political cover up. They are that much afraid to rock the boat politically that there are those in south armagh who are above the rule of law.

  4. Sam Hanna says:

Woodward is a slimeball – Paxman was pretty benign also in his questioning. He never asked what mechanism was in place to deal with any memeber of the Executive that gets involved with terrorism. Paxman never pressed Woodward on why Conor Murphy has not been arrested for communicating with a proscribed organisation or even on what grounds Woodward has to contradict the IMC statement that the IRA were involved.

Also, why does Woodward and Donaldosn now make a distinction betwen the Army Council and the individual local units of PRIA? They never have in the past.

South Armagh has got away with murder and genocide for decades – it is truly a blot on the world map and an embarrassment to “civilization.” I am a Creationist but the place is one of the few “devolved” societies left.

    Facts.

You’re talking rubbish. Maybe you’re the one who has been talking to John Barleycorn. Besides, I bet Mr Hanna’s a teetotaller (no bad thing.)

Dontcha love it when they use the word “genocide”?

Perhaps “thinning out” would be a more exact – if slightly pejorative – term…? Would we feel comfier with that?

Try Newsletter/Belfast Telegraph archives – think you will find that hundreds of Protestants were butchered to death by Catholic death squads in South Armagh – let me pick some of the highlights of these brave sectarian “soldiers” e.g Darkley Pentecostal Church, Kingsmills Work van, Tullyvallen Orange Hall etc.

AS I said before, the Catholic populace condoned and aided the genocide in South Armagh of their Protestant neighbours for decades – they played with fire and now they are getting burned. Hard to be sympathetic to them. I don’t remember 600 people from Cullyhanna coming forward to catch the killers of Kingsmill.

http://www.victims.org.uk has a goood list of all the names.

Correct me if I’m wrong but it sounds like you are gloating over the death of Paul Quinn.

    Shame on you
