I trust that abduction hasn’t been done by aliens (extraterrestrial type) who have been in the news over here this week.

    Bob’s balls with edits:

“Well, that the News Letter/Sluggerotoole will hand over a page (of thought provoking political insight?) to a columnist/blogger (is Silliday paid?) whose unique perspective (?) is merely reproduced from the UUP website – and simultaneously handed to an alternative media outlet by its accompanying website for publication.”

Are you talking about old columns as this week she spoke about the spate of attacks on Orange Halls.

Strange that Michael highlights the ‘wisdom’ of DUP Iris Robinson regarding the UUP Health Minister but does not have the nerve to comment on the related contribution by Basil McCray on BBC Radio Ulster Inside Politics http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/ulster.shtmlregarding .

Will the UUP have the courage to walk away from the Executive, when health needs are starved of essential funds, so that we can have some real politics at Stormont rather than an unhealthy DUP / SF mutual admiration society?

  5. It’s no news to anybody that the Newsletter is a mere amplification system for the DUP.

The journalism of the newspaper is extremely shoddy and not getting any better under the new editor as far as I can see. I can give examples.

I pity readers who rely on it.

Outsider, take a look at the column online and take a read at the bottom of it.

There is definitely pro-Dupe censorship at work on the letters’ page.

the newsletter is great…..it cried long and hard about the darren graham affair in the fermanagh GAA, and how the GAA as a whole needs to be more inclusive, yet after kerry’s victory in the all-ireland final this year, not one word was reported, the biggest sporting event of the year. a whole page for hockey however. i realise they cater for their readership, but as regards inclusivity, with the NL it seems to be a case of ‘do as i say, not as i do’.

Another Michael Shilliday post- another petty attack on the DUP. How much longer must Slugger readers put up with these blatant party political posts. It’s maybe not the contributors to the News Letter but Slugger that need a little attention

Is any criticism of the DUP permitted? What about other parties, should we ban criticism of them too? What will we talk about? The weather?

There is no appetite from readers for reports on gaelic within the Newsletter, I’m sure if the paper ever starts reporting on gaa events it will see a slump in subscribers.

  12. I wonder Outsider whether it’s sales are increasing or decreasing in recent ABC surveys? Perhaps if we were to ascertain what direction the sales were going at present, it might be then more apt to figure out what it should or should not include. Perhaps GAA coverage might be the saving of it…..

  13. gordon says:

I think criticism of all parties should be fair game, but there only seems to be one contributor on this site whose intentions are only ever to attack one party and promote his own. I don’t think as Slugger fans we should have to accept it. If other contributors adopted such a partisan approach, the site would not be the success it is.

I would just like to know,

    1. Does Mrs Peter Robinson get paid in addition to her other salaries and expenses?

    2. Was the previous guy also called Robinson, Garth I think a son of Peter and Iris?

  19. brownnoser says:

Gareth, Jonathon and Rebekah are Robinson spawn and work for their parents and the party in one capacity or other.

Gavin Robinson who used to write a column in the News Letter is not related to them apparently.

“Does Mrs Peter Robinson get paid in addition to her other salaries and expenses?”

She gets wages and expenses from all the institutions to which she is elected, Castlereagh Borough Council, Stormont and Westminster. At a conservative estimate she probably brings home at least £250k a year as would Peter. When you also take into considerable their office cost allowances for staff all go to family members, it is clear why they are known as the Swiss bank family Robinson.

Oh yeah, so there is one person outside the clan who receive a wage from them – he is probably related, dating or friends with the clan. Funny you never see jobs advertised for DUP offices!
