This is an interesting one.
While Ahern knows the law needs to be looked at regardless, it’s interesting to see how quick he has moved when Paisley brought it up.
I don’t think the process will move any quicker than it would have had it just been an issue highlighted in a TV show, but Ahern will be more keen to make a deal out of it and put on a show…
Maybe it’s because he wants to show Paisley how receptive he is of his concerns, whatever they may be. Maybe he just wants to show off all the lovely co-operation going on between Ireland and Northern Ireland. There’s an interesting dynamic to it, though.

Wouldn’t be so sure chaps – brush up on your constitutional law – the official name of the southern state is ‘Ireland’.
Yeah, we Northerners used to officially live in Ireland until the GFA and corresponding referendum in the 26 counties gave us the old heave-ho.
The last few posts have all been a wee bit too Ella Fitzgerad (“You say eether and I say eyether“).
What a pity that, as fellow residents of one small island, you can’t harken to the song of a great bard from a neighbouring island of timeless and international renown, “A rose by any other name…”.

But the cynic in me remembers that the reason Bertie and Ian get on so well is that they fish in different voting seas.
And there’s very few votes in being nasty any more.
We all just had enough of it.
Word of warning to Unionists: Charlie Haughey, who knew about stuff, once described Bertie as the most cunning, ruthless and devious of them all.
I also disagree with the use of the term “Ireland and N.Ireland”.
Ireland is not just 26 counties or one jurisdiction, she is much more complex than that.

I would say Berties quick response has more to do with the RTE Livewhinge telephone lines almost melting on Friday afternoon as people expressed their repulsion at the BBC programme.
What does it matter anyway?
Sure aren’t we all unionists anyway, whatever way you look at it?
A government is only as good as its opposition and its good that Iano is keepin Berts on his toes, alot better than Endo.
