It is Hain’s sincerity that impresses me when he sets out to apologise, though if he doesn’t do his own speeches he should sack someone and get a replacement who knows something of the history of Belfast.I hope he nips back to Washington to put the record straight before Bush orders an attack on the shipyard. I think Hain’s next apology will be on behalf of Noah for leaving the unicorns behind when the weather took a turn for the worse.He falls in my category of those like Blair,,Invest NI,the NITourist board Trimble ,Empey, Allister,and the McCartney Six who suffer from delusions of adequacy.

I would like to apologise on behalf of all past and future Secretaries of State for Northern Ireland for all the opportunistic apologies we chancers have and will make, and for all the ways in which we have and will screw up your beautiful country – which we love, but can’t wait to leave.

I have no right to issue this apology, but there are more important issues in my life – such as future positions of power – than the mere embarrassment of a million-and-a-half taxpayers who keep me in the lavish style to which I have become increasingly accustomed, at everyone else’s expense.

However, as this is starting to look bad, and my image might start to suffer, will you tell the bogtrotters that they’ll have to start the game at Croker on Sunday without me.

It’s worth noting the following from today’s Tele:

Mr Hain was speaking at a reception at New York’s British consulate to honour the late African-American singer and human rights activist, Paul Robeson, who had a long association with Mr Hain’s native Wales.

…

Mr Robeson’s son, Paul Robeson Jnr, told the reception that he did not want compensation from countries once involved in the slave trade.

“You can not pay us for that,” he said.

Instead of apologies, it would be far better if countries signed the UN Declaration of Human Rights, he said.

Hain lets himself go, yet again. He had no right to do this.

I’m opposed to slavery, as I’m sure virtually everyone in NI is, but I’m damned if Peter Bloody Hain is going to apologise on my behalf for something I had no part in.
