Too many hats to chose from..

Sun 8 October 2006, 11:49pm

More multi-tasking this weekend by the Secretary of State for Wales etc, Peter Hain. Applying a large amount of gloss over those grey areas in an attempt to rhyme hype with historic in The Observer and, along with some other potential candidates, he’s clearly decided that Jack Straw’s been getting too much coverage with his tentative suggestion on full veils [niqab]. Despite, as the Observer leader points out, “Mr Straw’s intervention on the subject was measured and respectful. He was right to make it.” Peter Hain thinks otherwise, “I think people are entitled to wear what they choose to wear..” [he clearly didn't read Martin Kettle's article - Ed]. Any suggestion that Hain’s view has been influenced by his recent experiences involving discussions with certain individuals wearing balaclavas would be entirely mischievous..
