Slugger shortlisted for global award…
This comes as something of a pleasant surprise/shock, but Slugger has been shortlisted by the prestigious PoliticsOnline group, for inclusion in its 2006 “Top 10 Who Are Changing the World of Internet and Politics”. We’ve done moderately well in voting competitions in the past (if we get the vote out), and I guess the best thing in our favour is that half of the shortlist will make it to the final ten. And there’s nineteen other sites worth checking out! But, if you like what we do just get over there and vote for Slugger!! Oh, and spread the word!!
Adds: I’ve just been looking and we’ve been put in with some seriously heavyweight company!!! Speechless….

Congratulations!!!!
Bloody hell! There are some real heavyweights on that list, Mick.. and some lesser mortals too.. [Like the President of South Korea? *ahem* - Ed]
Vote early and often? ;o)
That tactic seemed to have backfired on Samson and Goliath… this needs to played straight!!
They seem to be treating their voting system a lot more seriously than the Beeb did.
Some of the other bigger names.. OhmyNews… and FactCheck..
Start preparing the speech, Mick… It was just an honour to be considered.. ;o)
Mick, Pete, and the gang,
Well done … and well deserved.
I’m taking nothing for granted. Some of those sites are big. Very big. We really need to the get the word out. If nothing else it’s an opportunity to Ireland on the world Internet map!!
Congratulations! It was a pleasure to cast my vote for you. I lurk here daily for both educational and amusement purposes.
Congrats
Congrats mick and Co. Delighted to cast my vote for ye. Well done
Well done that blog!
Congratulations on being shortlisted! My vote has been cast. Here’s hoping the site does well.
Actually it will be cast when the voting opens
Oops.
Ermm.. Mark,
Voting is open… right hand side column.
In the absence of a nomination for my favourite site for the promotion of understanding and world peace: ” Miss Cindi and Miss Trixibelle Get it On”, I have of course voted for the default nominee and I sure hope the Mixster romps home ahead of the field.
Well done, Mick and all the contributors.
well done, well deserved, Nobel prize can’t be much longer in coming
Think we’re done for the next 200 years as far the Nobel committee is concerned, or at least we should be!!
Ta Pete, seems firefox was having a hissy fit in loading that column. got it in IE.
I wouldn’t give up on the Nobel, Mick. Not only Kissinger and Sadat had those dubious shillings but, closer to the manger – Trimble, Williams, Corrigan and the other fella (whose name escapes recall).
All of the above were obliged to share the spoils and only a former IRA Chief of Staff, Sean MacBride, scooped both the Nobel and Lenin Peace Prizes for his work as UN Commissioner in Namibia.
Maybe next year? I know that Miss Cindi and Miss Trixibelle don’t mind sharing. They assure me that they are most inclusive (just like that nice Mr.Blair).
Well done Mick. Vote cast.
as someone who has found Slugger indespensible in my education regarding Northern Ireland let me say “well done!!” Mick and the gang
my vote has been cast, may you do well in the vote!!!
Vote cast with pleasure. Great to hear that you’ve been nomnated, a glass or two of magners wouldn’t be out of place even at this stage Mick. Well done.
Deed done.
Another one in the box…
Congrats . I’ll do what I can to stuff the ballot box
With an internet link in one hand and an etc etc etc etc in the other
Congrats Mick et al. A thoroughly deserved nomination for sure. Here’s hoping.
Bualadh bos, bualdh bos!
Can not imagine a more deserving site. And not just for Mick, but for the other moderators and all the faithful contributors who hone their thoughts, reign in their emotions, and do their research…so the rest of us don’t have to.
Greenflag has got it exactly right. It’s not enough to vote, we’ve got to link — the more divergent and diverse, the better.
Viral to victory.
