Extradition sought

Fri 23 June 2006, 7:13pm

The PSNI have begun extradition proceedings against Larry Zaitschek, a former chef at Castlereagh Holding Centre. They are seeking to charge him with aggravated burglary, assault, imprisonment of a police officer and two counts of having information likely to be of use to terrorists.

Intriguing. What’s the sub-text I wonder? I shall be following this one with salivating prurient interest.

Didn’t the DUP force their hand on this one?

Unless the person being sought is a member of the DUP, as it was he who brought the case to court in order to force the hand of the PSNI

Pat, I wasn’t aware of that, but I had heard that Peter Robinson had tabled questions in the house, asking what was happening with the case.

Come on, guys, don’t be mean. What’s going on here. I know nothing at all to the background to all this but it looks decidedly juicy and I do so enjoy a good scandal.

Can we have MI or any other “handler” charged with: “information likely to be of use to terrorists.” ?

Typical to see the PSNI suddenly dealing with a four year old+ case by ensuring the (previously ignored) timeframe peaks just as the November negotiations will be building.

Case or no case, the Special Branch guys seem to have decided again that divisive narratives and court proceedings will be raised just when political progress is most likely to occur.

These PSNI guys are even more transparent than the RUC.

Surely what this is about is an attempt to divert attention away from the latest story, this time about the breach of security at the NI Police Fund – whatever the denials this appears to have some substance and it will probabnly come out in the end. (and isn’t it about time that Lord Rogan and Lady Sylvia’s sister, both former directors of the NIPF board told us what they know and why they resigned?)

Isn’t it likely that the govt is hoping to take attention away from the current gathering scandal over the NIPF and back onto and old issue?
