British IRA collusion…
Andrew McCann thinks that Slugger has missed the proverbial barn door in our early coverage of the Donaldson as double agent story. He sees it as nothing less than the thin of a collusion between the British state and the IRA wedge.
A bit fanciful for my taste and yet another theory, however would agree with this phrase;
“If this lousy, rotten to the core, government is complicit”

How can anyone have any vestige of confidence in this government, its actions, and its intent after this farce. With regards PSNI God alone knows what prompted their actions.
Government prevarications won’t do it is not good enough. No one can believe, have confidence in, or trust the ethical standards of this government.
A prerequisite for resolution of differences is trust and for trust you need truth. We need an inquiry.
The government’s first line of defence will be you can’t have one for reasons of public interest and security.
However this is so serious that what we should all be discussing is how to put pressure on the government to agree to an inquiry or suffer damage by prevaricating.
This stain is going to dog the political process from here on in. It cannot be ignored. It cannot be swept under the carpet, we will constantly be tripping over it if we do.

Why would Blair want to bring down the institutions he worked so hard to get up and running?
Even Adams doesn’t believe the British government were involved.
This is rogue elements within British intelligence who clearly have a different agenda to Blair.
The question is, will Blair do anything about it?
Blair would be mad to move against the intelligence services. Remember JFK.
unfortunately ATW’s theory falls apart when we remember that the assembly was collapsed by Trimble – who ATW doesn’t even mention. noone forced Davy or Ian to do anything, they chose to walk out.

That kind of blind trust leads to abuse of power. Look at the Catholic church for example. It is dangerous not to hold all organs of power to account. It is abundantly clear that the Stormontgate Republican spyring was a myth. There was a spyring at Stormont however – a British spyring. The Republican spyring was an invention to bring down the Executive. One wonders what the point is in endless negotiations to restore the institutions if the Brits are secretly trying to bring them down. It’s time for honestly and transparency from the Brits.
Or to totally discredit and take apart SF piece by piece over a period of time.Not a long period of time as say 30 years.Things have changed the timeframe is shorter to these agencies now but to us it might seem like a long time (2,3 maybe 5 years)but to others this will seem like months.
How many other deep cover political or terrorist agents in other parts of the world have been uncovered so easily.I would say not many.Everyone is expendable (cliche i know) but ultimatley true.

Posted replies on this thread last night about 3am or later, and this morning gone. Nothing inflammatory either, very odd. God knows where I posted, but almost sure it was here.
Don’t have time today to reply properly but was basically on the need to focus on who we definitely know was either involved and carries responsibility. Ie The British Government and ALL parties here should stop internecine warfare whilst that lot walks off laughing at us.
This started on a Friday and it is now the week before Christmas, parliament in recess. I don’t think any of this is accidental. The government want this forgotten.
Suggestions, prod our local elected reps, write to letters columns, web sites , blogs etc. Write to opposition MPs and awkward Labour types who may take it up but keep prodding and we all need to stop trying to score points off each other as we are all guessing, but together take swipes at this Government.
