The troubling memory of Pearse

Patrick Pearse’s most famous words have been removed from the gable end Beechmout (RPG) Avenue: “The Fools, the Fools, the Fools- they have left us our Fenian dead – and while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree shall never be at peace.” Catherine McGlinchey sees it as a sign that classical repubicanism is being slowly painted out of history.
